Are we happy with Murphy, Ritchie & Gayle as first choice? I'd still be far happier with a more proven striker just in case Gayle doesn't cut it, but it seems a solid front three anyway.

This was the first choice front three when this bloke first signed.

We should not have any complaints when Barnes or Gordon or Elanga have a bad day

In his early days here there was something there, he'd come on create a chance, have a shot, make something happen, but never looked like he could be a starter.

He's sort of crystalised those moments, extrapolated them to a full game and looks the essence of a pragmatic, functional team player.

Still sometimes doesn't look like a starter but I love him and I'm sure the majority of managers would like him in their dressing room.

Superb cross. Said before the game I thought he'd start for this reason. Think he has that knack of picking out strikers really well as he showed last year. More than our other wingers.

For certain games and obviously as we get more used to Woltemade and getting runners in behind, then obvious Elanga and Gordon will hopefully become more productive.

But for now it's hard to deny that Murphy isn't our best assister in the squad currently.

he scored one (offside) and had 2 banger hits. His left and right peg are absolute cannons.

gonna take some shifting from the first team.

i thnk he does pull out of 50-50's but i'll let him off.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him properly challenge for a 50-50, pulls out of every single one. For me, I find him ridiculously frustrating to watch. He’s such a brilliant crosser of the ball and he can strike a ball sweetly but fuck me, everything else is brutal

This sums it up for me. I need to try and remind myself that what he brings does outweigh the other stuff and not complain too much about it. It’s just hard when he’s having an off day or the team isn’t clicking. As it is magnified.

Jacob Murphy is a force multiplier, when you're on top he's going to give you those key passes, crosses and assists. Absolutely vital for us in getting points off 'weaker' opposition. It's not just his ball striking, but his ability to act quickly and instinctively, whereas most of our players seem to play rigidly into patterns of play without much flair, Jacob will spot something and just put in a cross or a pass or take a shot.

I think he should have a run at all set pieces to be honest. Yes Tonali looked good at Milan but when given the opportunity he didn't seem great, he might just be rusty, but Murphy on corners the other day worked and made so much sense. His no.1 attribute is striking a football - let's get him on corners, direct free kicks.

I think Elanga has some work to do to displace him really, especially against weaker sides. When we've got our backs to the wall we'll need outlets and this isn't Murphy's game though.

I'm honestly astounded I'm saying such things about Jacob Murphy, who would have thought after being loaned out to the Championship a couple of times because he couldn't get a sniff and looking afraid of his own shadow that he can so effectively play to his strengths here and now.

Modern-day Gillespie parallels? Couldn't help myself with Barca on tonight.

Not in training when he crocked Elanga. (Joke).

Typical Murphy performance one min I am shouting at my imaginary friends saying what the fuck you doing the next he's doing that assist he was doing for the rat last season on a plate assist perfectly weighted slight curl perfection.

Elanga's setup/ assist attemps first half nearly as effective but not as fondly remembered thanks to shite finishing by Gordon and Barnes.
