Agree. Isak or Wilson on the pitch today and he gets an assist. Considering how good Barnes is at shooting from the distance he got the ball in the beginning of the game he would maybe have had two assists if Barnes didn't fumble the first touch.

Thought that 50+ yard run he made at the end summed him up perfectly. Fantastic, incisive and then shat himself as he approached their area If only he had that little bit more in his mentality. Good contribution overall though.

Ultimately, it's not his fault he's in a position he has to be played so much, despite not quite being up to that standard.

 

Having Tonali and Trippier allowed him to focus on his stronger points most of the game, and he was solid.

 

Could have caused a lot more problems with just a bit more composure and self belief today though.

Thought he played well, but like others have said I just wish he had that extra little bit of quality, never good enough to be starting for us once we get a proper RW but a very good player to have as a squad player, gives absolutely everything and is capable of moments especially late on against tired defences.

Don't think there's been a player with such great peaks and troughs TBH, he's truly a unique and bizarre player. 

 

Does some things that nobody else on the pitch can do, then fucks up key attacks fairly regularly.

Never lacked the physical attributes, but has often lacked the mentality to be a top player. 

 

Can be a frustrating watch sometimes when you know he has the ability to do things like that run 2nd half or when he smashes in the odd goal from 25 yards. 

But then most of the time make strange odd sessions in the final 3rd.

 

It is what it is at this point. We've done well to get as much use as we have out of him considering how useless he seemed early on. Not his fault we have failed to upgrade his position for so long.
