Mikel Merino (now playing for Arsenal)

Recommended Posts

Is he actually being sold??

Nothing apart from a Marca report and a few various Spanish twitters, as said before its just that he's Basque and theyve just got 60m from City.

Fair enough. But this is Ashley's NUFC.

I fully expect him to be sold tbh, and if so it will be the absolute last straw. Final.

Chronicle quoting AS as saying Bilbao are attempting to negotiate a deal but Rafa trying to block it..

"Athletic is still very interested in the acquisition of Mikel Merino, but Rafa Benítez is trying to stop a negotiation.

The club negotiates for the midfielder of Newcastle and go with everything, although the dates reduce the margin to sign a substitute in the British club.

It is the third attempt of the club for the versatile midfielder, who can also play in central midfield. Benitez stepped in and said: “There’s nothing, you’re not going anywhere.”"

Even FMA wouldn't cash out one of our decent players against the wishes of Rafa with no non-ginger replacement in sight, would he?

Hopefully just lazy journalism but it's got all the hallmarks of an Ashley stitch-up.

Newcastle is waiting to convince Benítez not to operate by force. There is an Athletic-Merino agreement and the last red and white offer that exceeds 15 million convinces English leaders, tied by the statements of their coach, although they do not rule out skipping it.

Is that suggesting the club are trying to force Benitez to sell him for 15m (euros I guess)?
