Mikel Merino (now playing for Arsenal)

 Seems a tad overreaction.

TBF Athletic's pool of players available to buy is approximately 4 players.

Think he's saying they've signed nobody for 3 years?

This is probably just the tipping point. They're clearly more like us than we think.

I think this counts as one the media totally missed.

Story only broke this AM, right?

£7m must be permanent (if that is the price). Can't see the club paying £7m for a loan when they won't budge on a couple of million when trying to buy.

Not even that, it was about 2 hours ago.

Totally on board with the "never seen him, never heard of him, but extremely excited about this signing" group. And really everyone should be since, if nothing else, it appears Rafa wanted him and Rafa got him.

Also this from reddit

He is. When he was with Osasuna he carried the team himself at times. With us, he didn't get enough time to show what he has got. He showed glimpses of clean passing and vision. Did make some stupid mistakes but all in all BVB fans will be sad to see him go.

I got to watch him a bit at Osasuna and like you said his ability to read the game and passing reminds me of Busquets in a few ways

Talented, young and the guy is a rock. Great signing!

All aboard the hype train

Dortmund fans there saying it's a loan though

It seems quite evident that any permanent move for a player in that 20 to 23 year old range seems to go through really quickly.

Think the club is happy to sanction moves for these players with potential resale value, which was a big remit previously, and appears to still be a factor as far as the urgency with which deals are done.

Just hope Rafa can find some younger players that are gems, who can come in and really make the step up. Like the look of Murphy and Merino so just hopeful it pans out.

That's definitely Rafa's route to bringing in some sort of quality, even if it's undercooked. Our board are far more likely to sanction deals for the Murphys and Merinos as there's droolworthy sell on potential. £17m for a 28 yr old? Fuck that.
