Geogaddi Posted yesterday at 08:44 Share Posted yesterday at 08:44 Be unbelievable business for Man United if they get 80 million for a 30 year old. It's an incredibly annoying deal as it should strengthen them massively if they spend it properly .

Unfortunately it's one of things we should be doing (understand im going to pelters for this) I've said this for a long time. Ligue 1 is the best league for it too - physical. La Liga, Belgium works well. I think FSG are looking into it. Chelsea, Man City, Brighton already at it. It's part of my "PIF don't do everything they can to make us a success" view. They give our rivals massive money. They don't use the Saudi league to park players for us.

Eales was announced as leaving 9 months ago yet he is still in place. We move at a pace which is beyond slow when it comes to macro decision making. I'm still having a difficult time pinning down what PIFs intentions are with us, I'll know when the new stadium question is answered I suppose, but even then will I? What if it becomes like Neon we announce it and don't follow through? Sounds hard to believe but it would be peak nufc.
Theregulars Posted yesterday at 08:55 Share Posted yesterday at 08:55 I understand the logic if they sell him but he’s carried them for a few years. Your worst season and then worst player gone; surely hard to return from?!

But they aren't strongly led or empowered in strategic direction. And as you say, big decisions are slow. Staveley is a big miss. She had drive, direction and influence, although she seems to love spending other people's money a bit recklessly. Disappointed in Eales handling of the DOF role. It seems a power play in retrospect because he didn't have the power.
midds Posted yesterday at 08:58 Share Posted yesterday at 08:58 Selling Fernandes for a large amount solves one problem but creates an even bigger one tbh. How do they replace him? He's carried that club and suddenly swapping him for a bag of cash doesn't seem like such a good deal after all. The way that club wastes money on absolute shite I'd not back them to fill even half the hole him leaving would create. Their signings have been wank for years now and now they have to spend £100m correctly to replace him? I'll not hold my breath
CPL Posted yesterday at 09:06 Share Posted yesterday at 09:06 If they sell Bruno Fernandes, would you really trust the board to find a suitable replacement for him? He literally saved them from relegation last year. Sell him and I legit think there's a realistic chance they will go down.

We need a midfield destroyer. We have Kobbie Mainoo and one of the most creative players in the world in Bruno Fernandes. We just need someone to offer enough protection to the back four and recycle the ball to one of those two. Ugarte fits the bill of what we need. McTominay isn't on the level of these guys. McTominay plus £15-20m to get Ugarte in would be hugely beneficial to us. I would say McT had a pretty strong season, and if Ugarte and Mainoo are even better? Wow! Once again seems to be opposition fans thinking Ugarte hasn't been good for us for some reason, when in reality his partnership with Casemiro is the only reason we made the Europa League final. Man United fans pretty much unanimously agree that not starting Ugarte in the final was a huge mistake. Dropping Bruno deep was strange.

Rich Posted yesterday at 09:38 Share Posted yesterday at 09:38 Ugarte's not big, strong, or athletic enough to play the role he's supposed to in the PL. He's only capable of passing sideways or backwards, too. He's so far from being a truly elite DM, it's mad what was spent on him and what his salary likely is. Selling Fernandes, even for that amount, is awful as well. He's the heart and soul of the team, as well as being by far their best player.

McTominay was in Serie A mate. Ashley Young and Darmian were dominant players there. Phillip Billing and Billy Gilmour have just won the league. The slow pace of the league suits powerful players like McTominay. I'm happy for him, but he's certainly not a top level player in the Premier League. I'd be devastated though.
Kid Icarus Posted yesterday at 09:50 Share Posted yesterday at 09:50 Best case scenario would be they sell Fernandes for that and their recent transfer success remains as is. It would take a hell of a coup or scouting insight to replace him like for like, so they might have to Moneyball it.
WilliamPS Posted yesterday at 09:51 Share Posted yesterday at 09:51 (edited) In the world of PSR (which Man Utd are one of the biggest proponents of) selling a 30+ year old for £80m is almost always the right decision. Nucasol Posted yesterday at 09:53 Share Posted yesterday at 09:53 Absolutely ridiculous fee for a 30 year old. Man Utd are right to rip the Saudi’s arm off for that sort of cash. Ultimately it’s all spreadsheets not soul these days.
