They were the winner of the league format and the best team over the regular season, so it's not totally unreasonable selection. The rest of the teams have qualified based on pre-determined metrics for the continental winners over the last four years and the best ranked European clubs over a set period. I'm sure they'd have loved to find a way to not have RB Salzburg in it otherwise.
