Think Trent is a major issue in Europe and at the highest level in general.

He’s a unique profile and talent.

A couple of thoughts from an LFC fan, if you give a damn, that is :)

Trent might lack defensive nous, but he is a unique talent, as TCD posts above. Salah and TAA were an attacking force to reckon with. With fully red-tinted glasses on, I believe they were on par with any PL right-hand side from an attacking perspective. At least I don't remember any other pair doing it day in and day out consistently for six to eight years. So, he will be a massive loss for us, no doubt about it. The fact that he was a local boy who came through the academy stings a bit more.

I believe he will do very well in La Liga. He will be pinging balls to Mbappe, Vini, and Bellingham from the deep and racking up assists against most teams. At the highest level, say against Barcelona or in the CL against Bayern and PSG, I wonder how they will fare with four defensively weak players—Mbappe, Vini, Bellingham, and TAA. Most modern great teams accommodate a maximum of one. Historically, Madrid has been kind to attacking fullbacks who are defensively not the strongest - Carlos, Marcelo. We will see how TAA measures up against those.

The one positive thing is that FSG has assembled the old data team—Edwards, Graham, Ward—and added Hughes. Slot has shown himself to be a tactically solid and adaptable coach. This is a big loss for us, but I think we have the right background team to find solutions.

Yes please. Struggle to think of a more "one man team" in the league

I raise you Chelsea and Cole Palmer

He’s been a bit shit this year hasn’t he?

Think "bit shit" is wild. Not scored as many goals as last year, but when he plays well, Chelsea win. When he's off it (like recent weeks before his and their upturn in form), they don't do as well. Imperative we keep him quiet this weekend or just smash him into the stands. Father in law is Chelsea season ticket holder so I'm getting most of this from him

Yeah, that was lazy from me. However, there’s absolutely no way they’ve been a one man team this season, certainly when comparing them to man united. Last season maybe.

I disagree from an attacking sense, don't see any of their players stepping up or controlling games. But, saying that, I think Lavia has actually been one of the main reasons they look more solid in the middle. Chatting shit ain't I

I suspect a lot of other clubs fans would quite quickly say we’re a bit of a one man team.

As for being an issue in Europe, Liverpool have won the thing and got to more finals with him as their RB. He’s not an issue. People will go “Yea, but Vini destroyed him”, so what? One game, it can happen if a top attacking player is on it. Salah on it in final, they maybe win 2-1 and no-one remembers Vini game.

Most recent winning CL fullbacks have been lockdown defenders.  DC at Madrid obviously and the CBs Pep has been playing at FB. Prior to that Chelsea had 2 of the better fullbacks win it.

This season Barcelona aside the 3 other semi finalists have lockdown fullbacks.

To win the champions league you need fullbacks to be able to shut out Mbappe, Vini, Kvara, Doue, Lamal, Raphinha, Saka etc. level players.

The Madrid CL winning sides have been able to dig deep to win football matches in the CL.  Can Trent do that?

So what you're saying is we need to lock Tino down to a longer contact?

They're going to sell Watkins I think.

If I were Villa, selling Watkins for £60m+ and getting Delap for £30m would be a good way to alleviate some PSR pressure and get younger / still talented striker in

Who’s spending £60m on Watkins? The chance was there in Jan when Arsenal made a move. I’d be very surprised if Arsenal revisted that deal again, especially at that price point.

Boat feels like it sailed. They’ll likely be bailed out by Saudis for Bailey and potentially Martinez.

Rodgers may entice Man City though.

Pep has a player similar to Rogers in Matheus Nunes and he plays him at right back.

Not to mention Rogers came through at Man City and was discarded.

Pep has no clue what to do with that sort of attacking midfielder.

He’ll be an excellent signing for them

Sure I’m just thinking of players like Rodwell and Phillips who have gone there, only for their careers to promptly die.

Can't see it going well for him under Pep either.

Be interesting to see how it pans out.
