thomas
Amazed he's even considering staying on. Must have gotten some good news on the weekly conference call with Mandy and Stifler.
Odear
I’m not sure much has changed. Those quotes (on the contract) seem out of context for the timeframe. Earlier this week Miles Starforth wrote an article on Lascelles with month old quotes but played out like he’d given an exclusive interview. Can’t trust a word the press say (unless it’s from Caulkin who has earned his stripes) but otherwise they’re all rodents.
Robster
Fucking brilliant that players are backing Rafa and are prepared to get the club penalties for not talking to the media. Players hold all the power these days so once they start going against Ashley, he's fucked in terms us maintaining our place in the Premier League. It's all downhill once the players don't give a shit.

TRon
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-6029183/Benitez-reveals-Newcastle-players-frustrated-lack-business-summer.html Rafa Benitez has revealed that his Newcastle players are just as frustrated as him with Mike Ashley's apparent refusal to invest in new signings. The boss is mystified as to the owner's reluctance to back him in the transfer market and has warned that another season fighting relegation lies in store. They are refusing to speak to the press while the bonus dispute continues and we understand they are also considering not fulfilling obligations with some media rights holders, which could lead to financial penalties for the club. Asked if his team shared his concerns, Benitez said: 'One hundred per cent. The players know. They want to have better players around because they have more possibilities to win.' The Spaniard wants four more signings before this week's deadline and West Brom striker Salomon Rondon is set to arrive in a loan swap deal with Dwight Gayle going the other way. But Benitez - who is yet to sign a new contract - had hoped it would be very different, especially as Newcastle are £26million in profit this summer. 'My idea was that at this stage of pre-season everything would be completed and we would be ready and working with my players for one month - it's not the case,' he said. 'If they trust us, give us the tools, we will deliver. We have done it everywhere and won trophies. In this case, I was expecting we could deliver something.' He added: 'To balance the team we need four players. Can we do it? Yes. Can we do the ideal window now? It's impossible because we have lost the opportunities. It's a pity that after two months we are talking about the last five days. 'It will be more difficult than last year. Wolves, Fulham, Cardiff, especially the first two, are spending money. Crystal Palace, West Ham, everyone is spending money. 'I've had the meeting (with Ashley) and I talk with Lee Charnley (managing director) every day. They know my idea, I know their ideas. 'I can talk (about a new contract), but we have to walk the walk and talk the talk. We have to do things. It has to be done. If we want to improve, you need to be sure it will be done. 'The problem is we have been talking about the future for the past month and we are not going in the same direction. 'I will fight until the end. I cannot guarantee anything. But in my head, it's to stay and to fight and make sure we do well. If everything is right then we can talk about the future.' My god I am going to miss him when he leaves. Keegan walked away, and most would tbh, but Rafa knows how to play the game and every day he stays he'll hold Ashley to account. Fair play to the players as well, it's not easy to get onside with the idea of striking for a better squad when your own place is probably at risk. hakka
I literally love Rafa. He's amazing. Really think this is a class idea from Rafa and players, hope club is fined for it repeatedly. "They are refusing to speak to the press while the bonus dispute continues and we understand they are also considering not fulfilling obligations with some media rights holders, which could lead to financial penalties for the club." Just think it's amazing how he isn't backing down and he's doing everything to push for the club to do the right thing and let him make something special happen. Au contraire, I think this coming year is the most important and interesting year for fans under the whole of the Ashley regime - Rafa vs Ashley. It will generate wide publicity about how badly our club is being treated. The fact that there was an article in German about a middling English football team with a Spanish manager and no German players, at the top of the front page of the German sports magazine, kicker.de, shows that our plight is gaining traction internationally. Really looking forward to seeing how much damage Rafa can do in these last 12 months.

Paully
What a clueless bellend Richard Keys is! I got a lot of stick for offering Benitez advice last week. I stand by it. It’s so tiresome to hear him bleating on. “These are the facts – Mike Ashley isn’t going to change. Benitez will get the money the club generates – no more. Ashley isn’t going to put it back into the mess he inherited. It’s stable now. “It’s in the PL and they’ve got enough to be competitive with. Competitive? Top half – maybe a Cup. “Benitez won’t get a better job if he walks and he knows it. Newcastle is a fantastic football club. If he delivers silverware his stock will rise even further. “Forget top 4. It’s not going to happen. Keegan over achieved and for a while so too did Dalglish and Bobby Robson, who both delivered CL football. “Newcastle fans should stop their fight with Ashley, bite into some realism, get behind their team and demand their manager does the same. He won’t walk – not without a pay off. “Which leaves one last question on this subject – is he (Rafa) trying to get the sack? If he does go – trust me – Newcastle will survive.”
