Can you imagine you`re an ambitious professional footballer spending time being coached by Rafa….then watching him walk as a consequence of club mismanagement, then coming to training one day to be faced with the likes of....

Some twitter updates saying Rafa is being asked to sign a new contract and being allowed to sign one marguee player.  The rest of the squad will be pure rot.

Sounds legit

Rafa Benitez has been told he will be permitted to buy a marquee signing this summer - if he agrees to sign a contract extension with Newcastle United.

Behind the scenes, there have been suggestions that another big money transfer like Miguel Almiron will be possible for the Toon boss if he decides to stay at St James' Park .

Almiron's transfer has proved to be a success but getting the deal done proved to be a complicated affair as Newcastle haggled with Atlanta United and the player's agent for over two months.

A clutch of names ahead of the summer window have been put to Benitez, but the United chief wants to see a structured plan put in place.

Concrete assurances will also be needed.

His idea is to rebuild the club properly and relay the foundations in certain areas rather than build from ceiling down.

Names such as Brazilian star Joelinton have been bandied around the club in recent weeks but Benitez also has other targets in mind.

One of the snags Benitez has had during his three years on Tyneside is how transfer money is spent.

The recent process on transfers has been for Benitez to submit the name of a player before waiting to see if the valuation of the target can be met.

In 2018, Benitez asked if there was a pot of money he could splash out on one marquee target or whether the budget had to be spread on all of the targets.

Back then he said: "It's important to know exactly how much we have (to spend).

"I was asking Lee Charnley the other day and I'm waiting for an answer in a few days.

"We need to know."

But Benitez has never really had a transfer blueprint to work off, and now there are reports circulating that Mike Ashley wants to revert back to his policy of signing younger players with potential - and arguably future sell on value.

For now Benitez has breathing space in terms of transfer talks after stating he would rather wait until the club are safe in the Premier League before sitting down with Ashley.

Although, there is nothing planned at this stage with his representatives.

Benitez remains in contact with managing director Lee Charnley and the club's day-to-day boss made a beeline to the former Liverpool's office after the 3-2 win over Everton to offer his congratulations.

With eight games left this season is starting to shape up a little bit like last year.

United are in 13th place and withing swinging distance of the top 10 again but have two testing away games next at Bournemouth and Arsenal.

Were Benitez to guide the club to the top half of the Premier League again he would win plenty of plaudits after guiding the team away from relegation trouble.

Last year the Newcastle public demanded Benitez should get a contract extension but it didn't happen.

Plans were shelved over another row over spending money and instead of building on the feel-good factor there was a backdrop of uncertainty on Tyneside.

Surely that can't happen again?

But Ashley let things drag on behind the scenes before and Geordie fans are now fully accustomed to his methods.

From the icnewcatle hence the shocking copy and paste job

Heard rumours of Ashley wanting to revert to the old signing players with resale value, and I am inclined to believe it. I reckon Rafa could work with that as long as he was given a decent pot of money, and was convinced that the club would make realistic efforts to sign those players.

A lot of clubs these days have a similar signing policy where they won't splash big money on older players, I don't think that is going to be the deal breaker. It's the latter doubt that Rafa probably won't be able to put to rest. The suspicion that the club will never really offer what a player is worth no matter if he is under 25.

Aye but every Cabaye, there is a Jack Colback lurking about on the cheap.

Also if you buy young players who are good they cost too much for Ashley to sanction. Imagine if Rondon was 23.

Which Rafa is certainly aware of now, I imagine it would take some convincing for him to be persuaded that anything will be different ongoing. That said, Rondon was obviously a lot cheaper when WBA bought him, so I suppose it will come down to who decides which players are identified as promising targets. Ashley would say someone like Carr, Benitez would say himself or his own scouts.

According to Lee Ryder getting in a loan manager for the academy is one of the changes Benitez wanted in the academy so perhaps a step in the right direction. There is still a lot to do to convince him to stay.

Newcastle United's Academy revamp is now under way with the club looking to fill a host of positions for the 2019/2020 season.

As Chronicle Live reported on Monday, a shake-up behind the scenes to improve the club's youth system was set to take place.

This is something that Rafa Benitez has requested for some time, but the club are now pressing ahead in the search for a specialist "loan manager" to ensure their youngsters benefit fully from temporary switches away from St James' Park.

This is something that has came to a head in recent weeks after Elias Sorensen's loan deal at Blackpool turned into a farce - with the Dane playing just 32 minutes since arriving at Bloomfield Road.

Now United are set to follow in the footsteps of major European clubs like Juventus and Borussia Dortmund and bring in a full-time appointment to look after youngsters.

Ben Dawson is also set to step up his role and move into a technical position overseeing other coaches.

Newcastle are now actively seeking a new Under-23 manager.

A club statement read: "The Club is looking to recruit a Player Development Coach (U23 Lead - Professional Phase) to work within Newcastle United Football Academy.

"(They will) Work in conjunction with the Head of Coaching and U23 performance staff to plan, deliver and review the Player Development Programme in order to produce players capable of making the transition to first team football, primarily at Newcastle United Football Club."

And the information regarding the "Loan Manager" role, reads: "The Loan Player Coordinator will work in conjunction with coaching, recruitment, safeguarding and education staff at the Academy to ensure that the Club’s loan strategy is efficiently and effectively implemented.

"And provide weekly feedback to the Loan Management Team, including players’ progress reports to ensure transparency and effective management of all processes."

With Mike Ashley wanting more younger players coming through the system, the club are also looking for an assistant head coach at Under-16 level.

One of you in the area should be applying to one of these positions. We all know Ashley hates the idea of hiring someone with actual experience in football, so might as well start a revolution from within.

I thought that’s where it was coming from. It didn’t travel well to the area of the ground I sit in, and it was quickly replaced by other songs.

I think a better compromise would be Benitez is only allowed to sign one experienced like Rondon every summer, but is given a budget of £60 million to spend.
