We don't have to sell him and he's already got a contract til the summer, why are we giving him a rise? When Pope comes back he won't play anyway, unless Popes injury is a lot more serious than we know?

Offering him a pay rise till the summer makes literally zero sense. Why on earth would the club want to do that?

Again, probably because he was expecting to go (and earn more money), and this is how we keep him happy playing until Pope is back.

Blokes under contract tho, fuck that. If we want to offer him a longer deal to keep him around or secure value for a summer sale then OK, I possibly disagree, but understand the logic.

But offering him a pay rise so he can walk away for free makes no sense at all.

Ultimately if the Saudi club really wanted him now they could pay a proper transfer fee now.

And if he refuses to play because of a gentleman's agreement having been broken? Yes, that would hypothetically make him a cunt and all that, but wouldn't be the first time it's happened. It will be relative peanuts to us to give him a better contract until the summer, and if it's an extension then we will get it back in the summer if he's sold.

Yeah he'd be a cunt and I'd drop him in those circumstances anyway. He's under contract, we have no obligation to give him away for nowt just because some tinpot outfit wants to offer him a retirement package.

Sorry like but it just makes no sense, I've never heard of a situation like that where a club is effectively giving away money for the sake of it. If we want him to stay the season then refuse all offers that don't meet our value we'd want to sell him.

The whole thing seems a bit weird. All the noise is about us trying to convince him to stay despite him being under contract and the ones deciding wether to accept a bid or not. The fact that the 'bid' is essentially no fee makes it a no brainer to reject too.

We can't just give our current starting keeper away mid season for nowt

I couldn't give a shit if he's temporarily getting more to stay, it's not my money and we're rich as fuck!

If it makes him happy, adds stability for his family until he gets a summer move and (mainly) keeps his form decent enough to potentially win us a trophy, who cares?

Because the Webster ruling means he can buy out his own contract and piss off to Saudi straight away, which gives him leverage.  Clubs in Europe have been reluctant to do it; perhaps KSA clubs wouldn’t give a shite.

Let him do that then? If he genuinely is that desperate to leave? Or get them to pay a fee.

Also, not that this sort of scenario is going to be all that common. But it’s a dangerous precedent to set. I’m guessing it would also put him on more than Pope and other first team players. So could potentially cause issues that way.

We don’t know all the ins and outs. So purely speculating. But IF this is true and it is a big if, I know. It is Dubravka and his team driving it. Then after the Man U fiasco. He can fuck right off.
