Newcastle United 1 - 0 Man United - 11/02/18 - Post-match jubilation from pg22

Still can't work out why Sanchez stuttered and didn't hit it on the first attempt. Just happy that he did.

There's a certain camera angle which shows his leg would have to swing at an angle which would likely have led to a mis-kick. He takes the extra touch to adjust but it's too late.

I think his standing foot was in the wrong position and he'd essentially have kicked it into himself.

Was thinking the same. There's a replay where you see him look up just before the extra touch. At that point he would have seen a completely empty goal and surrounding area. Can only imagine he didn't feel confident enough in his body shape and in that split second decided he had time to be extra sure of his finish.

Surprising because he's normally a very nimble finisher.

Thank fuck, though.

What a satisfying day. Similar formation to away game, and the stats didn’t work out too different in the end (below). Yesterday we had 10 shots (3 on) to their 13 (6 on), and 36% possession.  Just a much better result and thankfully (despite our usual penalty curse) we got the rub of the green this time. Agree that Lejeune deserves a mention too, on reflection (bar a couple of misplaced passes at OT) he played well in both games.

I thought we/he set-up perfectly at Old Trafford. Scored the important first goal and could have had more. Gayle and Joselu started, with Shelvey and Hayden flanked by Ritchie and Murphy. It worked well, in the main. Don't think the defence covered themselves in glory, mind (Manquillo, Clark, Lejeune, Yedlin and Elliot in goal) but tbf they were up against some great players.

We had 12 shots (5 on) to their 16 (7 on) with 35% of the possession.

Was able to listen to it “live” this morning (local) and was buzzing all day - and sticking it to teenaged Plastic Manure fans along the way. But the best part was watching the second half over again, knowing the score. Our defence was really solid the whole time, from front to back. It’s why Perez starts ahead of Merino or Shelvey at #10, and why Rafa likes Joselu for particular situations. The way we managed the game was outstanding, and if we play like that in even half of our remaining games, we’ll be staying up comfortably.

11 heroes yesterday, special mentions to Dubravka and Shelvey, but also Diame, Lejeune, Lascelles and Yedlin.

What a result, need to follow it up with something now though.

Have to mention Gayle as well for his 2 blocks and his little touch for ritchie to finish.

Brilliant all round performance, hopefully another 3 points and similar display next game.

Great result and performance. We did everything I suggested we couldn't in the pre match. Won for the first time in ages, and held a lead. There were a number of top performers, It was almost like the debut and heroics of the goal keeper set  precedence for all.

The resurrection of Mo Diame playing a defensive holding role totally suits him and compliments Jonjo who was my man of the match, Dubravka obviously deserves to be close if not joint MOTM.

Great performance all over the pitch, Gayle did look weak without singling anyone out but his knock down to Ritchie was enough and he could or should have won us a penalty.

All in all a great diciplined performance.

Big moment of the game was Diame winning the ball off of Martial and leaving him in a heap on the floor imo. Was early on, but I think it woke up and showed to the crowd that something special can happen in the game. And it did. Whey aye.
