Btw, 7k in that cup thing and 30k in that division is brilliant IMO. Mind if they were doing what some of our lot have with protesting the owners or rebutting media lies, I wouldn’t belittle them one bit like they have resorted to, I’d be applauding and show nothing but sympathy.

As much as they are our rivals and closest neighbour who I do take a bit of joy in seeing lose and like to laugh at, no fan should be shat on by their club and any owner or persons at their club from managers to players and any decent attendance shouldn’t be sniffed at, especially not in their circumstances.

More power to any fan or set of fans who protest bad ownership, the commercialisation of the game and anything that takes the piss out of the history, heritage, culture and community spirits a club that devalues those things, mocks them or takes away from them, from WHA fans kicking off against their owners to Man Utd fans kicking off against the Glazers.

I don’t expect the mackems to join us on protests or find our situation a concern of theirs, but I don’t expect them or anyone to mock and be bitterly against it would seem any fan initiative to reclaim their club from bad ownership or want to restore core values relating to history, culture, community etc.

Mike Ashley might own the trading name of our club and the mackem owners the trading name of their club, but it’s the fans who truly own their club, which wouldn’t exist or continue to without and as the real custodians it’s our responsibility to defend, uphold and seek to continue all that we hold dear.

That’s why I never mocked Arsenal fans protesting against Wenger, yes on the face of it they seem spoiled and rather arrogant and even over the top, but the two clubs and fans cannot be compared and even if they were, it’s about how you as an individual feels about your club and whee it’s headimg or not headimg and whether that’s acceptable or in line with what your club is all about.

Obviously if say Huddersfield fans started protesting against the manager because they aren’t finishing in CL spots or winning trophies that would be hard to identify with and sympathise with, likewise if we were demanding Ashley pumped some of his billions into the club for players or because we weren’t winning trophies. But that’s not the case, for the mackems, we are protesting someone that doesn’t care about the club whatsoever, the players, the manager, the stadium, the fans or anything else unless he has to put his hands in his own pocket to fix his own mistakes or it benefits SD.

If fact it’s the reverse of caring, it’s neglect and that’s worse than incompetence. Freddy Shepherd cared, he was just incompetent and at times negligent, Ashley is down right nefarious.

The Glazers and Abramovic can be accused of many things when it comes to things their involvement in the sport and at their respective clubs have contributed to negatively, but it’s not the likes of them killing the game and their clubs, it’s the likes of Ashley and Short who at least had the fucking sense to get out.

I just hope for the mackems sake (not really) their new owners aren’t cut from the dame cloth as Short and more so Ashley and if they were and the mackems protested such ownership, I wouldn’t mock or be critical. I wouldn’t care to be honest.

The fact they do so underlines their hatred, bitterness and low self esteem as they use anything negative about us as a positive about them to boost their own fragile relationship with their club and the reality of their position in the game as a club, as fans and in comparison with our own club, us as fans and our position.

Sad mackem bastards indeed!

In my eyes there's a long list of former Newcastle players I would criticise way before Barton.

How many of them were sent down while a Newcastle player?

All of them in 08/09 and 15/16.

Said this loads of times (maybe not on here) but Barton played for us for 4 years, and he had the equivalent of 1 good season.  The rest of the time he was either injured, in jail, or just plain shit.

Also heard him say in an interview that he “got us back up”.  Did he fuck!  He played about 8 games that season.

Don’t hate him but he was a shit player for us and also a bit of prick.

Good day for our lower league and non league teams today with some very credible and encouraging results on a day when the top level teams aren't playing and they get the limelight.

Just a shame these fuckers could only scrape a flukey draw at home to Joey Barton's Fleetwood Town.

Exactly and I don’t hate him either, he is a fairly non descript former player for us in the grand scheme of things with only his off-field issues and character/celebrity making him anything more, and only then because that’s what seems to interest some fans these days.

Again I wish him well as a manager and he’s probably the kind of person you’d rather see more of in the game in terms of his character, but you have to be good at your job and he wasn’t good at his as a player, not for us anyway which is all I take from his time here.

He was often rubbish or bang average when he played and didn’t contribute enough at all to warrant any kind of fondness of him as a player nor his time here or be considered someone relevant today regards NUFC.

Jeans is a player often derided on here for example and did far more in our shirt and was the better player by far, for us and others.

The one thing about Barton though, I do think he genuinely cared, loved being here and didn’t want to leave, but again you have to be good at your job...

The ‘Heed are doing very well and playing good stuff by all accounts.

Was there today and although we bemoan the current filthy state of our stadium , it still is far superior to their flea pit . There is a distinct lack of control about the whole arena , people wandering around incessantly , parts of the structure being frequently and extensively used as percussion instruments and the natives randomly moving to other seats as and when they pleased . I do think that the relatively low roofing helps with maintaining a good atmosphere within the ground however .

As for the game , it could have gone either way , and was a decent spectacle to be fair . The crowd certainly gave Joey Barton a rough ride .

Owen did more on the pitch for us than Barton tbf.

Side note, Ched Evans was about to take the pen this afternoon before Barton shouted for the other bloke who missed to take it.

Barton's always credited with getting us back up but In reality he spent most of the year injured or as back up for Guthrie.

I have never heard anybody say that. But a large section of our support hold him in such high regard, despite having one good season out of four here.

Barton was a terrible signing and a pretty poor player for us and in general as a footballer during his career. Good luck to him in management, but please do not try and curry favour with Toon fans given you did very little for us and only become this ‘character’ at the club because you didn’t leave after relegation and had a few good notable games or played in a few notable wins. That and you were outspoken about the ownership and seemed a key figure in the dressing room. He joins a long list of shit players who did fuck all for us in the main to justify any kind of fond memory/memories.

Fair enough though isn't it? Hasn't gave me any reason to dislike him, and he done plenty to make me like him. Obviously not the best player but was fairly important to the team and definitely wasn't 'shit' in my opinion.

Almost as if he didn't miss a large part of his time here for being an idiot after a game at Wigan and ending up spending the time at Her Majesty's pleasure rather than on the pitch....

He definitely is described as having done that, if only by the lazy media. Pretty ambivalent about him tbh, he was superb in the game against villa during that drubbing but I’ve little time for these token pandering attempts.

And getting himself sent-off for a cowardly challenge at Anfield meaning he missed the remainder of the relegation run-in.

When they say that, isn't it more because he loves to bleat on about how he was part of the group that took control off the pitch after relegation?  Maybe he was a good figure behind the scenes but I hold him in no regard whatsoever.

His comment to NUFC fans to support Fleetwood was just small-time, which is what he has generally always been. Loved currying favour when on the pitch he only did well when he had Carroll to aim for. Even the season we sold Carroll, his performances took a near-instant downturn when AC was gone.

He may speak the truth about Ashley which I appreciate but everything else about him has always been insufferable to me.

Was never a fan, thought he was shite. Was a massive hit with the knuckle dragging element though, who loved him.

When Steve Harper had his testimonial and we had all those former legends playing, yet this waster seemed to get the biggest cheer. Baffling.

I like him, I like Nolan and Shola but I cant stand Cabaye and Remy and Owen for the simple reason they were never bothered about stepping onto the St James park turf with a black and white shirt on.
