Exiled in Texas
Next season is the last Marrachute payment from the Prem (about £16M I think), and that was supposed to be spent on solidifying their Champo squad for the Promotion push. Well, the last part is true .... they will be spending it on promotion push
BlackandWhite
They blew what would not be far of the rest of the leagues total combined budgets on Will Grigg alone They are a laughing stock. Hope they stay down there, it is where they belong.

frankpingel
Aren't they just waiting for the 9 points from the three games in hand to be added?
Exiled in Texas
Not sure... I thought it was just that the staged purchase payments from The Don were secured against the Marrachute payments.
Newcastle Fan
By next Saturday they could lose all chances of going through automatically, and it dosn't look good for them in the play-offs with both Charlton and Portsmouth picking up form lately. UncleBingo
It's quite beautiful how it's all gone to shit since Catt's penna miss at Wembo......our survival under Rafa Beneathus has seemingly tipped a few of them over the edge if RTG is anything to go by. Nice.

geordiedean
Can see them finishing 5th and having to play Charlton twice for a place at Wembo.....see you next year in league 1 tossers The finale to the season will be Oscar material on Netflix
Scoreboard82
Here's a feasible situation next weekend. Them and pompey draw, Barnsley beat Blackpool at home then safc can only catch Barnsley on goal difference. Currently 6 worse off so unlikely. Benwell Lad
If Barnsley beat Blackpool on Saturday it pretty much means Sunderland have to win their 3 remaining games and hope Barnsley lose their last game. Looking like it's the play offs.

Benwell Lad
Oh how they rejoiced when they beat our schoolboy/junior team in the Checkathingy They may be able to do it all over again next season
Wandy
They have almost to a man turned on Ross now. Thing is though, is it justified? Trying to keep a neutral stance here, looking in on them from the outside Ross seems to have done a good job in arresting a severe downward spiral. It might take them more than one season to fully reverse their decline but their baying mob are having non of it. In their eyes they think they are far to big to have to suffer more than one season in that league and this campaign should have been a stroll in the park. And they have the nerve to say we are deluded.....

And they have the nerve to say we are deluded..... Ross has spent 73% of the transfer budget of the entire division. For us to have done the same in that season that we (according to them) bought the league with the biggest transfer spend ever in the Championship (not true) we'd have had to spend over £400m that season. He's failing spectacularly.
Stifler
Would it not be best for them to draw the Portsmouth game? Having Portsmouth vs Doncaster would be more ideal than Barnsley vs Doncaster if Sunderland were to reach the play off final.
NUFCDoog
Was at the game at Peterborough today, live 20 minutes from there so went with a mate. Horrendous quality, both sides were very poor, Sunderland look like a typical league 1 side which says it all, their fans seem to have embraced lower league football as well the way they carry on and with their chants, proper small time. They brought a lot of fans but inside the ground they were silent until they scored late on, few of their fans ran on the pitch and they let off some flares when they scored, was the only noise they made properly all game, was incredible when Peterborough equalised, a lot of their fans were saying how much they “hate Mackems” seems they really don’t like them as well. Was a top day out
