Joelinton7
He may just mean it’s unclear in terms of his potential first team game time going into the future, so then it’s really up to Sean what he wants to do. Not that we’re necessarily actively wanting or trying to sell him. Edited April 4 by Joelinton7

I just read it as a nice way of saying he won't be starting games anymore bar a minor injury crisis. Think Howe is perfectly happy having Sean in the squad. I think Sean might be content with that too.

Everyone should respect Sean for how much he’s given to the club and how hard he works but it’s definitely the right time for him to get away from the club and work on his game without the pressures of playing in front of our fans. I think it gets too much for him. If he plays in a side that isn’t possession-based then he can still be a good premier league player for a team that presses constantly Completely agree with the first part but genuinely don’t think he would meaningfully add anything to a PL team. As well as being technically limited he’s very physically slow and not athletic.
aussiemag
His biggest issue is his mentality. When he’s confident his passing and technique is of a premier league standard. His stamina is definitely very high and his positional sense is great. Finds himself in goal scoring positions a lot for a midfielder. But just lacks real confidence. Tonalis Bookie
long term future doesnt refer to not playing, if there isnt any movement expected Eddie always plays it with a straight bat and says how important they are to the team and squad. Beginning of the end for a 100% PSR player if you ask me
aussiemag
The issue we have is home grown quota for Europe next season. Do we get Forster or Krul as a third choice? Adam Armstrong as a squad player? We only have Miley that would count. Elliot Anderson would be canny.

Technically he is extremely limited but in a side that doesn’t have the ball he’d do a good job of hounding people in the right system and then he just needs to offload the ball to a better player. He does have good movement for coming onto the ball in the final third too
Ellis H
If we’re in the Conference League I think he’ll stay as he’s perfect for the first half of that. We’ve got a lot of players/positions to upgrade this summer and I’d say he’s not near the top of the list.

janpawel
Surely he'd be perfect for a team like Everton under Moyes
Sibierski
After the league cup win, think even Sean must have his mind made up now that it’s time to go. He’s achieved childhood goal and he can get himself either a lower end prem club or top end champ club where he’ll be back in Prem. On a nice long contract, and be happy he was involved in that first domestic trophy for 70 years. No reason for him to stay and get scratch minutes now. Makes signing talented 19 year olds or younger key this summer, because academy won’t be filling out those spots just yet.
Jinky
Remember Frank Clark? Local lad, played loads for us, but regularly criticised.......binned off to Notts Forest. Imagine if like him, Sean joined Wood, Anderson and Sels at Forest, (who will almost certainly qualify for the Champions League)......and gets a winner's medal! I dont think Hall would count as wont have done 3 full seasons between the age of 15 & 21 (he would have done 2 years 17 days by the time he turns 21) So therefore if we only register Miley means we would have a squad of 20 outfield players & 2 GKs. NotRich
‘An HGP means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).’

Scoot
22 minutes ago, duo said: Contract finish end of season? Nar he's got a year left after this. Sounded like he could be away in the summer from the way Howe said it in the press conference. It would make sense, he's not good enough if we want to make the next step. He's currently 6th choice midfielder so he himself will hardly be happy about that either.
black_n_white
Has to be moved on, I’d like to think we could get up to 10 million for him?
toontownman
I read the quotes more that Longstaff is likely seeking an exit knowing his starting days are largely numbered here. I'm ok with him leaving and wish him the best but how many academy home grown do we have that we could put in to help the European quota? Gillespie and Miley count. But I suppose maybe adding Sean Neave/Ben Parkinson/Anthony Munda would get around it too? They first two have been in the first team squads and Munda has been tipped for a while to break through. TRC
Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to Toronto FC
Chicken Dancer
Will always have a soft spot for him and up until Tonali went as the most central of the 3 midfielders, we looked better with Longstaff in the team. Buzzing he got to experience Champions League nights with us and the goal he scored against PSG will hopefully stay with him forever - alongside his brace against Southampton in the 22/23 semi. We’ve obviously outgrown him now and there’s no shame in that. The shit he gets on socials is bang out of order imo.
Mike
If he can improve his decision making he's a solid player.

He won't, speed of thought is where his issues start and that's not something easily coachable, if at all, we know what we have and at 27, we either try and get a £10-15 million fee this summer or a new contract and give him the backup to the backup midfield squad role his level probably best reflects. ExiledGeordie
I think they’ll move him on and bring someone in who can do something a little different, maybe more of an attacking midfielder type. Miley is ahead of him now so he’s going to get limited game time.
andycap
I wonder if we have a clause in elliot andersons contract to bring him back for a set price? That way Sean going won't be such a big deal.
