Local lad, played loads for us, but regularly criticised.......binned off to Notts Forest.

 

Imagine if like him, Sean joined Wood, Anderson and Sels at Forest, (who will almost certainly qualify for the Champions League)......and gets a winner's medal!

I dont think Hall would count as wont have done 3 full seasons between the age of 15 & 21 (he would have done 2 years 17 days by the time he turns 21)

 

So therefore if we only register Miley means we would have a squad of 20 outfield players & 2 GKs.

Nar he's got a year left after this. Sounded like he could be away in the summer from the way Howe said it in the press conference. 

 

It would make sense, he's not good enough if we want to make the next step. He's currently 6th choice midfielder so he himself will hardly be happy about that either.

I read the quotes more that Longstaff is likely seeking an exit knowing his starting days are largely numbered here.

 

I'm ok with him leaving and wish him the best but how many academy home grown do we have that we could put in to help the European quota?

 

Gillespie and Miley count. But I suppose maybe adding Sean Neave/Ben Parkinson/Anthony Munda would get around it too? They first two have been in the first team squads and Munda has been tipped for a while to break through.

Will always have a soft spot for him and up until Tonali went as the most central of the 3 midfielders, we looked better with Longstaff in the team.

 

Buzzing he got to experience Champions League nights with us and the goal he scored against PSG will hopefully stay with him forever - alongside his brace against Southampton in the 22/23 semi. 
 

We’ve obviously outgrown him now and there’s no shame in that. The shit he gets on socials is bang out of order imo.

He won't, speed of thought is where his issues start and that's not something easily coachable, if at all, we know what we have and at 27, we either try and get a £10-15 million fee this summer or a new contract and give him the backup to the backup midfield squad role his level probably best reflects.

I think they’ll move him on and bring someone in who can do something a little different, maybe more of an attacking midfielder type. Miley is ahead of him now so he’s going to get limited game time.

That way Sean going won't be such a big deal.

Doesn’t work like that.

 

All of the players under 21 go onto a ‘List B’ and don’t contribute to the homegrown requirements of ‘List A’. 
 

But to be honest, it’s not a must that you comply, all that happens is your squad allowance is reduced by the number of HG players you fail to comply by. So the absolute worst case scenario is that we would only be allowed a 21 man squad instead of a 25 man squad (although in reality it would be a 21 man squad plus Miley and all the other kids).

edit - I think Lewis Hall would still be on List B for next season.

I think he gets unfairly slated (as Burn has too in the past).  Always pained me to see Steve Watson and Lee Clark so solid jobs against us for like likes of Everton, Villa and Fulham.

 

We need a squad and if Sean is happy with that role we should be happy to keep him.  I think of the likes of Darren Fletcher for Man U way back, not first choice, behind better players but loyal and does a job when needed.

Think he needs to go somewhere else. Not a player you can just sub in when you need him, needs to be playing regular to get his confidence up. Not much use in his current role here.

In what effing scenario would we want Sean Longstaff stepping in for Tonali, Jo or Bruno? He’s got pretty much all their individual weaknesses and none of the strengths.

If we’re going to have a 6th choice CM on the books I’d rather it be someone with ability to influence games and get better.

Yeah I like Longstaff and genuinely glad he's been part of the cup winning squad but the lad has proven far too often now to be a bad rotation player. He really does struggle in particular when he's dropped into the odd game or coming off the bench. Plus he's at an age now that he's probably not going to improve. 

 

It's the right time to move him on. Last time you're going to get to a fee. I think Eddie knows it too given he's barely played. As with Almiron it feels like the writing is on the wall.

 

It may be that the right sided player we move for is somebody who can also play central.

Bring Gomes in to replace him, good tricky midfielder although a tad lightweight

Theres doing a job against as mid table at best sides, then needing him to be for a top 4 push which after this season is where our focus needs to be regularly.

I know he's a local lad and all and a great lad by all accounts, but it's probably best for all parties that he leaves this summer. He doesn't really offer anything more than hard work these days and we need midfielders who can affect games more.

I take your point but we’re talking 6th choice here - that means not always making even the bench when everyone is fit, except for a real youngster it’s not an attractive offer to many players.

 

The squad could really do with another top level CM as agree the drop off is too big, but I’d be fine with Longstaff being 6th choice.
 

Although perhaps it’s time for a move for his sake really.
