Not sure where we're going to find such a cultured centre back that can also defend as well as he does. A huge part of our gameplan runs through him. Marc Guehi is not the long term answer to a Schar replacement in my opinion. this 100%. we need to be on the lookout for a centre back with at least some of his passing range. it’s a rare thing though

His finishing, ball striking and passing range are better than most midfielders.

M1tche Posted Friday at 20:56 Share Posted Friday at 20:56 Pretty sure Botman was part of the replacement. By that, I don't mean to play RCB, but for passing range. Botman has played some pretty outrageous passed off both feet when fit, and seems to have a better completion rate (I may be wrong on that). I think the CB we sign will be a line breaker, one that can find players feet with shorter range passing more than one that plays the glorious cross fields Schar does. He was ready to snap him He was goading him in the second half at times, inviting the press before tapping it sideways to Burn. He was absolutely seething and you could tell how much he wanted to embarrass the lad.
Kanj
I think Botman is supposed to eventually develop into the Schar replacement. But I agree with what was said earlier here, not a single CB in football profiles like Fab.

KaKa
Fabian Schar with a disgustingly bad chipped pass to the opposition for no reason.
Pilko
Exhibit A of why we need his long-term replacement in this summer, today. He's still valuable but against someone with pace and great movement like Watkins he's not up to it anymore, sadly.
Smal
one of his best performances at the weekend to one of his very worst. Been at fault for most of their goals.

buzza
Schar was abysmal today, slow to react and beaten to every ball, can't remember him winning a header either. Worst game this season. A pacy right centre back is needed this summer

Kid Icarus
He was hung out to dry, don't really blame him or Burn. Being slow against Ollie Watkins isn't being bad, our tactics needed to account for that and didn't. Edited 12 hours ago by Kid Icarus
Newcastle Fan
Watkins has his number today, but considering how consistent he's been lately its fine to have a one off stinker.
PauloGeordio
He scored for us! I’ll remember that rather than the stinker! (Better be back to his best come next Saturday ).

We totally played into Villa's hands and the threat of runners exposing our ageing defence was evident in the first couple of Villa attacks.
Gallowgate Toon
Felt like the exact same as at their place 2 years ago. Watkins dragging out to channels and winning the physical battle.

We just couldn’t compete with the running power and the pace they have in the team. That’s always been my issue with our squad, we need to fix that in the summer Edited 12 hours ago by andyc35i
