Loves a 4th. He's a right Albert for getting in on the act.

Will enter the conversation one day about what our best ever pound for pound signing was

One day?! He is already right in the conversation.

In my lifetime. When you consider the transfer fee paid and what era that was paid in. The longevity, must be 200 odd games and 20 odd goals from CB? Massive part of the top 4 finish and our first cup win in a lifetime. His fitness record. I could go on.

If you’re talking pure pound for pound value over a long period of time at the club. I can’t think of any better?

Think a big part of the game plan was the switches to the flanks. Bruno, Tonali and Schar to ping em.

Schar landed 2 perfectly early on. Won all his duels and he was absolutely loving it, feeling it, in the zone. He had so much fun out there. Back off, I'll ping it anywhere I want. Press me, I'll drop my shoulder and run past you.

He's gonna be some player to replace by the way. Not sure where we're going to find such a cultured centre back that can also defend as well as he does.

A huge part of our gameplan runs through him.

Marc Guehi is not the long term answer to a Schar replacement in my opinion.

Against MU he looked sluggish but yesterday he was class. It's such a shame that he's coming to the end of his peak years.

He's an absolute joy of a CB to watch.

I think only our fans will ever know how good he is/was. I reckon he could have played for anyone if he wasn't so overlooked. However, he was in the team that brought about the end of our trophy wait and thats special. His talent makes him deserving to go down in the history as a winner.

In a way it worked out perfectly for him, mainly because of his own patience and professionalism obviously. He’s now going down as a trophy winner and legend for NUFC and might be talked about as the best defender we ever had.

Who knows what would’ve happened if he’d left to fight for a place at a more successful club.

this 100%. we need to be on the lookout for a centre back with at least some of his passing range. it’s a rare thing though

I don't think there's another CB like him in world football. We'll never be able to replace him like for like. His finishing, ball striking and passing range are better than most midfielders.

Coupled with that chiseled teak physique and suave looks too I hope!

Pretty sure Botman was part of the replacement. By that, I don't mean to play RCB, but for passing range. Botman has played some pretty outrageous passed off both feet when fit, and seems to have a better completion rate (I may be wrong on that). I think the CB we sign will be a line breaker, one that can find players feet with shorter range passing more than one that plays the glorious cross fields Schar does.

Was hoping he was gonna get a 50/50 with lerma at some point. He was ready to snap him

He was goading him in the second half at times, inviting the press before tapping it sideways to Burn. He was absolutely seething and you could tell how much he wanted to embarrass the lad.

I think Botman is supposed to eventually develop into the Schar replacement. But I agree with what was said earlier here, not a single CB in football profiles like Fab.
