Pandamninator
Steve Bruce is Steve Bruce's problem. He can't blame Ashley for anything. Especially how he slobbers over him in the press. He has defended every single decision made by Charnley and Ashley, even claiming credit for many of them.
Guest neesy111
He's right about the bigger picture of course, but Bruce is at the very least, presently a huge part of the problem Caulkin is spot on, as usual. The problem is (as has always been the case) Mike Ashley. Only 1 football club in the world would let Rafa Benitez walk away and then replace him with Steve fucking Bruce and it's Mike Ashley's Newcastle United. :'( Nah, Caulkin is trying to defend his friend. Really lost any respect I had for caulkin this season. Bruce knew what he was signing up for, he can get fucked.

The likes of him, Edwards, Douglas have spent most of the season saying how well he’s doing in the circumstances, more points than Rafa, etc. Now it’s unravelling, the blame is on Ashley. Yes he’s the main problem but to say Bruce also isn’t is just stupid.
Guest
18 months ago he was 12th in The Championship with a team containing Abraham & Grealish. My guess is by this point they were playing ‘his’ way and not Di Matteo’s. If we think we’re suddenly going to be better if we have better attackers, I’d be wary. Guest
If anything it might expose him even quicker. A goalscorer and he might try doing it, ‘Bruce’s way’. He was failing in the Championship with McGinn, Bolasie, Grealish & Abraham. Just looked at the stats for his last game as Villa manager. 3-3 home draw to bottom club Preston who had more shots & possession than Villa. The defence for him by certain journalists is crazy. AyeDubbleYoo
I don’t think he’s really doing it any particular ‘way’ at the moment, we just have good CBs and nothing else. We try to counter because we have a bit of pace in attack.
Guest
The CBs have been crap for months. There’s a reason Dubravka’s being forced into the number of saves he’s making surely?
Rafalove
sections of the fanbase are starting to question him. Lose to West Brom and the pressure will really start to build.
Ikon
Is it just me? But I haven't seen anything of the leadership Lascelles showed under Rafa. Maybe I'm just imagining but it seems the extra 20% of focus and hunger aint there.
Tsunami
Bruce is a symptom of the cancer that is Ashley. This is just following a well trodden path, so long as Ashley is in charge the manager is irrelevant. Rafa got himself out when the penny dropped for good and Ashley won’t make the same mistake twice, can’t be having a popular manager who will challenge him. I really don’t rate Bruce but I can’t blame him for taking the job. This is becoming the car crash everyone could see coming. The failure to buy a centre forward before the start of the season saw to that.
ExiledGeordie
Bruce’s problem is he contradicts himself all the time. Talking up the squad and August window as being the best ever and then saying in January they couldn’t find a better striking option than what we have. Now he says the final 3rd has always been our Achilles heel ffs?
Tribesman
If Bruce is not part of the solution then he is part of the problem.
Tsunami
Bruce couldn’t really say anything else at the start of his tenure. He quickly questioned Joelinton’s ability as a goal scorer but then took a softer approach when he had to face up to the fact that it was either Joelinton or nobody. Ashley’s grubby mitts are all over that transfer and Bruce hasn’t been allowed to get a replacement in. I can’t for a minute believe that Bruce didn’t and doesn’t know that this is the overriding problem position. The media really should be asking why this massive elephant isn’t being questioned. Simply saying there was nobody better available doesn’t answer why it happened in the first place.
Tribesman
I know its a problem, but I don't think the lack of a quality striker is the overriding problem with this team. We are the joint lowest scorers in the league, but we are also 3rd worst in the league for goals conceded so there are problems in defence as well because we all know Dubravka is kept far too busy every match. Midfield is an issue as well. Offers no protection to the defence and offers no creativity in the final third. There lots of problems with the team the only player holding it together is Dubravka. Tsunami
Joelinton was constantly bullied off the ball yesterday and out of position. I’m not blaming him, he’s clearly not a centre forward. It is the overriding problem position and it is heavily affecting other areas of the side.
Tribesman
I reckon you could have Lewandowski leading the front line and the team would still struggle.
Guest
The scary thing is he seems to be pinning his hopes on a guy who’s never scored more than 7 at this level and is more suited to the Championship as being the answer to the problems. A couple of little touches against Wolves aside for the Almiron goal, he’s looked just as out of his depth. Barely noticed him in his 25 minutes yesterday. Guest chopey
Rafa put a system in place and bought players from the bargain bin to match it, given the chance these players would have been upgraded and with superb coaching I could see nothing but good things. Bruce is playing the same formation with players that cost more money but his lack of coaching ability was apparent from day 1, he could spend another £100 million this summer but unless they have a competent coach to guide them it will just implode. As NUFC.com said in their report, "its utterly unwatchable"

Jinky Jim
Match 28 last year was against Burnley(we won 2-0) giving Rafa 31 points and 13th Position......assuming we lose next Saturday (v Burnley) we will have 31 points, a vastly poorer goal difference and possibly 15th place(at best 14th).Perhaps then the media will stop comparing how much better we are this year than last....I’m not holding my breath!
