When he, Bruno and Tonali play together they are the best midfield in the league, and they proved that today.

Liverpool were their main competitors before today, but they were shown who were the real deal for sure.

Should be posted in the Eddie Howe thread - but it must feel so amazing for players like Big Joe and Dan Burn that in the Howe era, they have prospered so much professionally- winning a trophy, and getting call-ups to their national squads. They must feel so proud.

These are players that technically might not be the greatest.  But their character is at an elite level. They bring something that cannot be measured. An intangible quality that is difficult to replicate.

I said in BDBs thread - someone said he’s not a top 8 player. But he has been.  He’s played damn near every game.

Same with Big Joe. I think Joe can be improved on in many regards but he has something special and he showed it today.  He won everything from start to finish.

To use a cliche. Setting the tone would be one. Scaring the opposition would be another

His recovery runs are really underrated, as even if he doesn’t get across. He is often there to shut off the cut back or pass back inside.

He often becomes a bit of an out ball with some mid-range passes aimed into him at chest and head height. We miss that from the back when he is out. As nobody else in our team seems capable of holding the ball up back to goal.

He can play out of trouble when facing his own goal because of his size. It doesn’t always work. But it often wins us a free kick or gets us up the pitch.

Bit of a rogue and brain dead at times. Not the best technically. But I feel like he embodies all that has made this Howe team great, since the move to midfield.

Hard to believe this guys journey under Howe.

Runs a close second after Smurphy in 3rd and Big Dan in top spot for the most wholesome so happy for you rankings!

Wouldnt swap Big Joe or any of Tonali, Bruno, Isak for anyone in the world. Proper club legend and unplayable on his day.

I still can't stop thinking about Big Joe's story. Who would've thought that red card by Ciaran Clark would've changed everything.

Delighted for him.

Him and Burn were 10/10. Everyone else was 9. Unbelievable work rate from him, covering for other players, tracking runs across the entire pitch, holding the ball up in difficult situations and winning those battles in the middle.

That midfield three has really settled into it's rhythm now and they should only get better over the rest of the season.

I don’t think he even got a yellow for that

:aww:

If he did get a yellow I was in line for a $300 win from a $20 bet. I had Isak to score, Newcastle to win the cup and Joelinton to get a yellowcard. Thought Jo getting a card was a certainty.
