It’s easy to forget his journey into a makeshift midfielder to an absolute animal. Maybe it was the travelling this week but he’s looked off it for a while.  He needs to come out of the team for sure

I don’t want this to be the case but he is a player who relied heavily on physicality and he is right on the cusp of when that starts dropping off a bit

Time to spunk big wedge to bring Anderson home and slowly ease big Jo out of the side. He's easily one of the most likeable players in Newcastle's history and his contribution + turnaround in the last 4 seasons have been sensational, but on the ball he's simply not good enough.

Another victim of being dragged to the other side of the world to play cash money friendlies for Brazil. He’d have been better resting up than playing 60 minutes and travelling 6,000 miles across 8 time zones.

He's been shite all season.

I'd like to think its this, but for me, he's gave everything and more to be the player who he is, including putting so much on thee line physically, and now the body is returning the effort negatively. He's not as strong, mobile, fast or conditioned like he used to be, but he keeps playing like he is. Sitting him out whilst fit and just getting him repaired might actually work, but he's at that age now where every injury costs the body double, he really needs to stop the all action man style or we're never going to get him back to his best (but a change in styles may never see that)

He wasn’t great last season either let’s be honest. Had some very good games, but it was blended in with many games where he was chasing his touch again and getting many stupid yellows.

We have comfortably seen the best of him, and this season may need to be his last. £150k pw bench option for what he brings, wouldn’t be good squad building.

Probably a high chance of this. He's been linked tenuously for a few years now and this summer would be prime time with him turning thirty

We all thought Trippier fell of a cliff and was finished a couple of years ago. Players go through form dips. It’s obvious he isn’t at peak fitness. It’s too early to write him off yet. But yeh one game a week might be good for him for a month or so.

Well isn't this mostly true? Often a liability in defense and his offensive contributions are far from what they used to be.

He has the odd good game sure..

I think his form will return but he’s definitely not the player he was a few seasons ago. I can definitely see him moving on next summer I think as we need someone who is just better on the ball, e.g an Anderson transfer. Joelinton doesn’t have the skills to help us control games enough.

Thought he actually started off pretty well, he was evading the press better than a lot of our players, but he got more ragged as the game progressed. He feels like one of those players who needs to be upgraded for us to evolve, but it would probably cost a lot of money to actually get someone much better. Haven't seen enough of Ramsey to know if he's the answer, but hopefully he is.

I think his fitness record going back to the start of 2023-24 is second worst only to Wilson’s. He’s missed about a whole season’s worth of football matches in that time up to now.

Despite good performances here and there it’s been probably since the mackem cup game when he went off after 0-2 injured where the downturn in most of his performances have been. He’s not good enough in possession for where we want to be, though I’m unsure if Ramsey or Miley could be any form of replacement for him.

Hindsight 20/20 but we probably should’ve gone for Ederson from Atalanta instead of giving the current contract he’s on. Can’t be a squad player on those wages.

It was obvious last year that in games where we needed composure and attacking threat thru the middle that he wasn’t the guy. We conceded a few and many moves broke down due to his lack of technical ability and consistently good decision making.

He was worth keeping for what was delivered in the end, and it was fitting he was an instrumental part of it having been part of the Bruce time. Gives even more of a connection to that final winning squad.

Just we can’t let sentiment get in the way moving forward next summer. If a reasonable offer is there, we have to look at accepting. We’ve assembled a squad that got us a first trophy and really, fully cements us as a top 8 side. Now, we need to assemble one that goes from that to one that’s always pushing top 4 and that will mean tough decisions, but also being braver in the market which recently we haven’t been. Signing Elanga, Ramsey, Barnes, Wissa etc. that’s not being brave in the market IMO.
