Callum Wilson: offered 'incentive-based' contract extension (Ornstein)

Recommended Posts

Doubt he'll accept this anyway, he isn't likely to get many minutes and knows he'll probably get injured again.

Surely there's no way we don't sign another striker?

I hope we're not planning on signing Mbuemo and thinking that will be enough options.

not surprised by this. Eddie obviously loves having him around and there are a lot of games next season. He’s done it before with the likes of Dummett and Ritchie etc. I’d imagine we’ll be attempting to half his basic wages.

Don’t think it would necessarily mean we won’t add someone else up front either.

I doubt he’ll agree to it though.

He isn’t a rotation option though, he offers nothing.

He'd be third choice I reckon on basement wages to play in the League Cup and fill the bench. I don't want it but I'm looking at how the club will see it and our overall require ments. They might even shift him to Saudi for a small fee mid-season.

Personally think it's irrelevant as he will get better offers and go elsewhere.

Exactly.

Keep coming back to it but Howe clearly sees a lot on the training pitch and having older heads in the dressing room is key. We are offering him what he thinks he is worth. As seen with Longstaff he will phase him out once he gets better options.

Playing a barely fit Isak over Wilson vs Everton shows me he no longer trusts him but if he wants him around the place and Wilson wants to stay on a better financial deal then I’m all for it.

Team spirit has a lot to do with where we are and how we compete vs others who get the benefits of farcical financial rules. I’m sure he realises we need a better back up anyway.

He's leaving. He'll have known the club wouldn't renew & offer an incentive based contract.

Great servant and wish him all the best.

Seems pretty obvious to me. Don't see why we'd wait until after the last whistle to say "oh btw Callum we're offering you this." He'll have known and that's why he said his goodbyes yesterday.

Also, where do you reckon Ornstein gets his info? It's obviously agents. Agents who want to drum up interest in their player. This is nowt but smoking-out clubs who'll offer him a more certain and lucrative deal.

I'll eat my hat if he's a Newcastle player next season.

It's stuff like this that makes me doubt the club has an elite mentality quite yet.

We simply have to be aggressive with our outgoings and incomings if we want to really establish ourselves among the top clubs. Sentimentality is only so useful.

The way he acted at full time yesterday tells you everything. Not having that the new contract has been offered since the game, it’s a play to drum up interest. Hope he gets a good move.

Think our board will overrule Eddie on this one.

We might offer him a contract with low wages, and that wouldnt be the end of the world like. Assuming we also get in another striker.

Makes totally sense to me that we've basically put a contract on the table that we think he's worth.

He's been given the Dummett/Richie deal. Be part of the wider group and be a leader in the background, with the odd cameo.

Some love getting their knickers in a twist over nowt.

This has absolutely nothing to do with potential incomings.

Hopefully this is more of a supporting type role, and only really playing in emergencies, and perhaps even as a prior step before becoming a coach maybe?

Think we'll still get a striker in and so shouldn't be an issue.

If this is for him to still be a legit option for the team as a player, that would be pretty ridiculous.

Only if it's the case he's there as a senior figure to essentially be a coach on the park as an overage player for under 21's. Similar to what Liverpool did with Spearing.  Cannot be the reserve striker option. We've had a half cattled Isak for well over a month now with no effective back up or replacement striker. This would be lunacy going into a demanding season .
