His arms look twice the size of when he first emerged in the PL at Bournemouth tbf. I thought he was a proper pace merchant in behind when he signed but he's more of a complete striker now

Probably had shit loads of time to be in the gym, where he can only train upper.  Due to his legs being fucked (again).

I've said it a few times now.  But even since he first signed with us, it seems like he has lost a yard and perhaps also plays within himself a bit.  Probably by design to a certain degree, but there must also be something subconsciously affecting him.  Kind of understandable after all of those injuries and him being our only decent striker.

I was shocked by how quick and explosive he looked over short distances.  But that seems to have been missing since he returned at the end of last season.  Still really sharp and a great finisher.  But he just never stays fit and hamstring injuries are hardly going to help on that score.

Once you get it into your head that a muscle keeps ‘popping’ you do naturally hold back. Calf popped a few years back playing football and came back after four months out, physio et all, but every hint of tightness even cramp and you’re cakeing it that it’ll go again so ease off.

Oh aye, for sure.  I've had 4 ops on my right knee and didn't really play many sports to a particularly high level.  So I can certainly empathise and the fine margins are much more noticeable at the top.

I sometimes wonder if he has some sort mental problem regarding injuries, a bit like like Dwight Gayle. He apparently felt injuries which the medical people didn't think existed and that was during Rafa's time here

Owen was the same apparently, especially with his super noodle hamstrings.

Said it a few times but the word here in Coventry is that his hamstrings are shot. He’s going to need careful management and rest. Similar to little legs Owen.

Beat me to it.

Has he had many hamstring injuries with us ?

Owen was played too much as a young lad before he’d fully developed and was left with shonky hamstrings. Loads of these players who reply on explosive pace end up like it if they aren’t managed properly when they are in their late teens. The really great strikers adapt to naturally slowing down as they get older.

Gutting for the lad, really. His body is clearly not up to this level of intensity. Makes it all the more remarkable how instantly sharp he is when he does feature.

It's a huge relief we've signed another forward, like, because Wilson couldn't be less reliable. And for all he's a very talented striker, he's still a typical signing of that era: there was no real planning or foresight, it was just appealing financially.

Cross our fingers for us and for him that this is the only substantial lay-off this season but I think we can all accept that it won't be. Do feel for the guy, like; he never leaves anything out there on the pitch and he clearly busts a gut trying to represent the club, and he's performed so well on the whole. Just an almighty pisser that he's obviously just got very fundamental issues with his natural fitness.

What was the name of the spurs centre half who’s knees were so fucked he barely trained his last couple seasons but played like a Titan at the weekends?

That'd be the great Ledley King

Yep. His injury record on TransferMarkt isn’t great. 163 days out with hamstring injuries at us and Bournemouth. 20 games missed. Nothing compared to 2 cruciate ruptures (55 games missed) but add this to thigh and calf injuries and you’ve got someone who is massively susceptible to muscular injuries. Since 2018 he’s missed 307 days and 39 games worth of football with them.

I do think the medical team / club know more about Wilson's body. Whether he has a mental block or they expect hamstring issues to continue.

If we have enough depth so that he only plays 30-60 minutes per game but is available more often, that would be great.

They said the same thing about Hargreaves, Bale and Sturridge. They thought they had injuries when the medical team couldn't find anything. At a certain point, a player just feels it.

Tbf to Wilson he's had 2 ACL's, another serious knee injury, 2 big hamstring injuries and a big calf injury. He's done well to still be this good after all of that.
