If your hand accidentally brushes someone’s face when you’re already past them, that’s a foul and should result in a goal being disallowed? OK then.

I sense sarcasm.

That's an extraordinary decision - yet at the same time once he's made it, how is it not a 2nd yellow? A complete and utter fuck-up of a situation.

Got to be a straight red if he’s saying it’s a foul. Not saying it is or isn’t, just saying they have given half a decision.

Cos it was accidental

Not sure Son cheated did he? There's no denying he got a hand or finger in the face

He got flicked with a finger and went down like he had been shot to try and con the ref. It worked, which is why the game is fucked forever.

He didn’t cheat, he just followed the football convention of making every physical contact out to be much worse than it is.

Still not his fault overall, VAR should have made a different call.

100% agree with this.

No way you should be done like that with minimum contact.

Just fucking scrap it.  It's a shambles, it should work in theory but refs are idiots and their paymasters are bigger clowns.

Bar a few absolute roasters in the press I'm unaware of any football person actually thinking VAR has improved the sport. Got to hope there's some serious discussions in the summer. Could do with it turning the Euros final into a farce or something.

Mourinho and Spurs genuinely sicken me now. Don't forget what Martial was sent off for in the game earlier in the season while Lamela got off with nothing. Two really, really poor VAR decisions which could be the difference in 4-6 points.

The bottom line with VAR for me isn't so much about the game delays, the removal of in-the-moment excitement (which of course is still a huge factor).

it's the fact I feel like we're still not coming to the right decision, and it's only serving to hold a huge magnifying glass over how bad the decisions are.

Like most I was happy to give it a go but in its current format it quite simply cannot continue. Cliche but it's true - it's killing the game.

I don't actually have a huge problem with VAR being used for that, for consistency I just think it is generally being over used. I don't think it's VAR's fault either that the ref couldn't see that was accidental conduct that didn't impede Son who was clearly trying to buy it. It feels like refs feel like there are hundreds of fouls going on at all times and so when VAR comes along they are always obligated to give them. However I feel if VAR is there for anything it is to check game changing moments like fouls that might be missed. If the ref didn't see it checking it feels within the spirit. How the VAR ref didn't take one look at it and tell the ref on pitch 'nothing in it' and that be the end of it I will never know. VAR was wanted because of refs missing things or getting it glaringly wrong, not because every minor coming together needed 5 minutes of contemplation.
