Sad news, he can't have been that old either.....loved the Withe/Shoulder big man/small man combination from my first couple of seasons at SJP. The rest of the team was garbage to be fair. RIP.

RIP Alan, the scorer of the first goal I saw Newcastle score live. First game if the season home to Oldham 79/80.

I stand corrected, after looking it up it turns out Peter Withe scored the first goal. One of the lads asked me to name the starting 11. I was impressed with myself I got 8. Didn't get John Bird, Terry Hibbett or Jim Pearson. I had Stuart Boam, Nigel Walker and Peter Cartwright

We were on holiday at Berwick caravan park and my constant whinging made my dad bring us back (non driver so bus) early for the match. I was convinced the two wingers ploy would get us promoted and Nigel Walker would be what Gazza actually turned out to be.

I booed Vic Halom ferociously in their very very royal blue tops

That just took me back, Peter Cartwright used to be my PE teacher back in the late 80's at Ridley

Hallelujah, John Tudor, John Tudor. Probably one of the first ever Newcastle songs taught to me by my dad when I was like 4 or 5.

Keeper for the 1965 promotion team, behind the Clark-Moncur-Burton-Craig back line. Eventually displaced by McFaul.

Aye aye aye aye

Marshall is better than Yashin

Wyn Davies is better than Eusebio

and Arsenal are in for a thrashin
