Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

‘He got plenty of minutes’ = less than 12 full games and 26 appearances. Less than 40 minutes an appearance.

Harvey Elliot managed almost 3x the minutes in the same season.

Anderson never got a solid run for us.

Yep. Then there’s also the factor of much less pressure on him at Forest. Allowing him to develop in a more relaxed way with consistent game time.

This is where having a DOF is useful.  A good one. And saleable assets.

You sell atleast one of Longstaff, Willock and/or Joelinton to give Anderson a path way.  When Anderson left he was arguably 6th choice CM.

Thats what Fergie was great at. Letting players go at the right time.

It’s difficult and I don’t blame Howe. His job was in question when he finished 7th.

We need to set up links with clubs  that have a record of bringing through players (Feynoord, PSV, Ajax, Anderlecht) and upper level Championship clubs. Send the players we sign from abroad with the intention of developing to the first group of clubs and Championship clubs for our better homegrown academy players.

Players won’t ever develop without consistent game time and when we’re fighting for Champions League football and cup trophies Howe can’t risk youngsters.

Can’t we do a tie up with a top half Championship club and subsidies some of their costs in return for taking our youngsters on loan and giving them game time? Not sure on league rules about such payments.

I think if we finished 8th, no league cup or Europe again last season.  His position wouldn’t be secure.  Whispers at least.

I disagree. Injuries were the only reason we finished as low as 7th. Howe done unbelievably to get us in that position.

he's on about if that had happened in the season just gone.

I dont think he is anything special. PL level player and from the youth setup so sad that he had to be sold. But in the long term, not much of place for him in the team.

Nah, he’s quality and would have been huge for the squad

Yeah the season we finished 7th. TCD is saying that his job was in question, that's how I read it anyway. Apologies if I've got it wrong.

I think he meant if we had finished 7th and then finished 8th and won no cup.

Exactly.  A repeat would’ve been trouble.

Sorry TCD I thought you only referenced the previous season. I agree then, the eyes would have been on him. Do you think he's under pressure if we don't get Champions League again next season?

Sounds like PIF need to buy them another club or two…

He wouldnt have been starter this season and hopefully we wouldnt need him in the future, apart from rotation. Better than Willock but pretty much the same attacking output

Didn’t start first 4 games, but come off bench in all 4. Then started started 4 in a row, completing 90 mins in 3 of them, then back on bench for 9th game. Mixed in with 2 appearances off the bench in UCL.

Then his back injury ruled him out until March, missing essentially 4 full months which is often the busy months.

Then starts 50% of remaining 12 league games when he’s back from injury in our push for Europe. Coming off bench in rest of them.

That’s plenty of minutes for a breakout season and it’s silly to say otherwise. That’s what you want from a young player and what we would’ve wanted for Miley this season gone.

Have you actually watched him last season? He has very little footprint on the internet for some reason, so it's been hard to see him without actually watching Forrest or the England U21s, but he's looked excellent.

He covers a lot of ground and wins the ball all over the pitch, can make line breaking passes, switches it with ease, and can dribble through if needed. He broke through the Dutch midfield last night with an outrageous turn near the 90th minute. The Bruno regen comments are spot on.

He'd arguably be starting over Joelinton and given he's only 22 his attacking output could improve too.

I dont give any credit to U21 games. Poor Finland nearly won that Dutch side. Harvey Elliott has also looked good in this tournament.

And yes, I have watched him. I dont see a player who would start for top6. If Anderson starts more than 30 games for UCL team in 3-4 years, I will buy you a pint.
edit. He is nowhere near Joelinton’s level atm

Harvey Elliott is good, just far too small. He'd be an excellent signing for someone but doubt he'd fit in here.

I get not taking U21 tournaments too seriously, but Anderson did it week in week out in the Premiership, the U21 games are just a decent opportunity to see his style for anyone who didn't see much of Forrest.

Like I said, he is decent PL level player. I hope player like him wouldnt be a starter for us.

Which other top6 team would Anderson start for? I think none.

Think there’s a valid argument for a few.

But it’s just because he’s English and playing for a lesser side, he won’t get the traction. He’ll be in full England set up this season, 100%, then his name will start getting linked to the top sides as we head towards summer 2026. I think he’d be great for Arsenal and compliment Rice / Odegaard.

Decent Prem Level player for me is a very good player. Get them in a side that has more of that level with a couple of exceptional players, you have a title challenging side.
