Really hope he find his form again. In an none psr world you keep him for his running and energy and I think peak willock offers something different to the other midfield players however what we are seeing is more non impactful or poor performances obviously mitigation by the injuries stacked on one another. Maybe the injuries is holding back or he has lost something due to the impact of them. Right now if we could get our money back I would snap your hands off. I still think we get more than we paid, as he's now proven he's a decent level premier league player. Unfortunately he's dropping into the group of players you'd accept letting get to help fund improvements.
dave s Posted Saturday at 18:29 Share Posted Saturday at 18:29 got to let this lad find himself again like. he’s a top player when he reaches form .. time is needed he’s had a rough couple years
Holloway Posted Saturday at 18:42 Share Posted Saturday at 18:42 It's hard to see him getting a run in the team now, he's not doing enough and will slide down the starting pecking order
Newcastle Fan Posted Saturday at 18:55 Share Posted Saturday at 18:55 I think he's already shown we are a better team with him in midfield than Longstaff recently, so i would say he's right there after the main three as the next one to step in. AyeDubbleYoo Posted Saturday at 19:01 Share Posted Saturday at 19:01 Said a few weeks ago I think the midfield will end up being Miley, Bruno, Tonali soonish. In games we expect to dominate. Medium term we should probably be looking for a left footed technical midfielder for that role.

If he's an attacking midfielder or a winger since his loan in 2021 he's yet to beat his goals total from that one loan spell combined the other seasons that followed. He's 26 next summer and entering his supposed prime years but can't stay fit can't impact the game enough and has never hit the heights of his loan spell with us despite much better manager and players around him. As I say don't want to sound negative off the back of the win but he feels like so many "nearly men" never kicked on from early promise. I want to be proven wrong but right now we're not getting back the 25m plus whatever the loan fee or so we spent on him he's a gamble sort of player for any potential buyer may kick on being the main man somewhere or never quiet regardless where he goes. kingxlnc Posted Saturday at 20:02 Share Posted Saturday at 20:02 Seems more like a Fulham or Crystal Palace type player No disrespect - but more of a aspiring top 10-12 prem player than a top 4-6 one.
AyeDubbleYoo Posted Saturday at 21:12 Share Posted Saturday at 21:12 Think he’s never going to be tidy enough to play CM for a top club. Not to mention being quite fragile physically. Sadly don’t think he’ll be a future first-team player for us. Maybe a decent option of the bench to take workload off others.
Geordie Ahmed Posted Saturday at 22:38 Share Posted Saturday at 22:38 I think he needs a run of games to get going, we've seen before what an asset he is for us The challenge is that his body seems fragile and is constantly picking up knocks which doesn't allow him to build that rhythm If his body isn't up to it then I wouldn't mind us signing someone of his profile (though I'd much sooner have a top class 10 to go alongside Tonali and Bruno)
alexf Posted Saturday at 22:42 Share Posted Saturday at 22:42 Jesus Christ some of you are relentless at seeking out negativity. Sure he was probably the quietest of our players today, and it was surprising as I thought this sort of game would suit him, but give the lad a break he's not really started for awhile and it was only a few days ago he came in at halftime and looked bright. andycap Posted Saturday at 23:57 Share Posted Saturday at 23:57 I noticed today he seems to foul constantly when trying to win the ball back. 😂

I want to give him the break but he's an attacking midfielder with 6 goals in 86 appearances. He's obviously a lower standard to bruno and tonali and can't help but appear a weak link. He's quality is running with the ball and carrying us up the pitch both of which hall and Gordon do already. He's not physical like big joe and can't do the defensive or combative stuff as its clearly not his game. Our midfield has been upgraded and through no fault of his own our team is going to develop past the need for him. As I say in a none psr world he can do a job in the midfield and wing and can work as a good squad addition on his day he can be a real asset. But in a psr world I don't think he contributes enough that his sale couldn't contribute to someone better the injuries have obviously falted his momentum and who knows if he will ever recover the edge or spark that's gone missing. dave s Posted yesterday at 00:20 Share Posted yesterday at 00:20 how about give the lad the rest of the season to see if he can hit his form again after such a lengthy lay off? then cut him if not.. 22/23 season he had 3 goals and 6 assists.. and was outstanding at carrying the ball and creating shit, part of the reason we finished where we did in champions league spot
Terrymac1966 Posted yesterday at 00:39 Share Posted yesterday at 00:39 Not a fan he is very inaccurate with his passing today resulting in unnecessary pressure on the defence.
Lush Vlad Posted yesterday at 06:32 Share Posted yesterday at 06:32 Such a strange player. Passing was loose. Put a chance in the top tier when it looked easier to hit the target. The turf monster got him when Isak played him clean through one on one. But even in saying all that. We do often look better with him in the team. He is rapid and his movement off the ball is great. Isak and him were often dropping off and then looking to go in behind. Ipswich were pulled all over the place.
r0cafella
I thought the energy he brought and the intensity was top notch yesterday personally. Fluffed his chance sure but he wasn't bad by any stretch imo.

Think I mentioned in one of the follow up posts we had him on loan where he scored 8 goals in 14 (now very much showing as a one off purple patch) we signed him and since signing he has then went on to score 8 goals in 86 appearances. Which i don't think is good enough when his qualities are in the side already ie carrying the ball forward and pace which we get from hall and Gordon already and can't offer the finishing of Barnes or the defensive game of big joe. Without shifting it to a was it a good idea to get Barnes if willock was the back up to Gordon fine but right now he's not ahead of the main 3 and 3rd on the list for the left wing. Due to psr issues I would sell in a heartbeat just don't think at the probably 30m plus we would want we would get many takers.

M1tche
We've seen him be class, let's not pretend any different. Very few players can produce moments like the pass to Isak in the crazy Tottenham match, the goal away to Man U, the run for the winner against Leicester. Keep him fit, build him back up, and we'll see him be class again.
