Either him or Miley, possibly Longstaff, although I doubt it. Are going to get a couple of games to impress soon. As Joelinton is a walking yellow and he’s already on 8.

Might even get sent off and give them 3 games the way he’s carrying on

I wonder how much interest other clubs would have in Willock. Said to a mate earlier, he plays a lot for us when he's available, maybe every game in some form. But how many PL teams would take him and would we get more than 15m for him?

I'd want 20million. He's still young, and he's a good player but he needs a run of games to get into form, and we'd have to be in quite a desperate situation to give him that (in the sense that we have a settled starting 11).

One of them players that is always better in the eyes of the fans when he isn’t actually playing. “Wuh need Willock back” etc etc.

I’ve always thought he was quality when he was fit.  He’s a better midfielder than Joelinton, for example.  The lad is made out of paper, unfortunately.

Our rotational RW for rest of the season with Murphy? Discuss…

Instantly saw the bump and thought injured again 🤣

He's struggling to make an impact when he's come on in any game in the middle and false 9. I think in terms of RW Willock I am hoping I don't have to find out.

Joelinton did well when he played as a RW (last match was an example).

The discussion is Willock though. Thinking how does EH give him more minutes whilst also freshening us up so we don’t become predictable 2nd half of season. Has he ever played much RW for us ever?

Willock is and has always been a quite erratic player, he doesn't play with a great deal of control. What Murphy offers from the right is almost the opposite imo, he's dependable, predictable (in the positive sense for his teammates) and has a narrow skillset which he's been honing to a high level. I think Barnes on the right is the closest we would get to Murphy without breaking the patterns of play too much.

Nah. I can’t see it. Can’t remember him ever playing there under Howe. He looked bad at RCM the few times he’s played there, from memory. Only the left centre mid or that shared, hybrid sort of LCM/LW role with Big Joe really seems to suit him.

I would say the Big Joe/Little Joe left side would be more likely again. Although Gordon does seem to pout when he plays right wing. That left side was crucial at times in our 4th placed season and I still think it could be used to great effect in certain games. One of

those social media statto types calls it something like “where opposition right hand sides go to die”

As of right now. I think Joelinton is next man up for that side and then Gordon. Although Howe seems reluctant to play him there and I get the impression Gordon doesn’t want to play there, either.

I would hate to lose Willock, especially to a PL club, and I'm not just talking about now in January, in the summer as well. Howe clearly trusts him a lot, which is why I'm suspecting he's played up front a bit recently, and there's such a good player in there if it wasn't for all his injuries.

If he's happy enough to do it, he's a perfect player to keep in the squad, as he's able to cover a bunch of different positions and offers us something different in midfield when he's played there. Especially if we get Europe next season, I can see him being a perfect player to have as our "European competition midfielder".

Plus he'd score against us every time he played us if sold to a PL club

maybe he just needs eddie to work some magic on him for a few months. he’s definitely no where near the player he was in the 4th finish but if he can recapture some of it, and happy to stay and be squad/fight for his place.. fair enough. you’d think if a higher level murphy replacement comes in, he would be sticking around fighting for his place also, we need a squad to progress

Just hasn't looked fit for a long while, and looks very match rusty. Needs a run of games but isn't getting in that midfield three anytime soon.

Or LW hence me posing the question. Can’t see him getting many minutes otherwise.

He’s always been a bit erratic but physicality was always his biggest attribute; it’s very rare to see a cm with the pace of a top winger that helps up and down the pitch. Just hope all the injuries haven’t irreparably affected that part of his game…
