Mixed feelings as I work for Sky and this would surely be the end of it or at least lead to huge downsizing. But I'm not oblivious to the faults of Sky either.

I do think this is coming in the next 5-10 years but similar to the HBO Max stuff recently, Sky will want to continue working with them and not lose the connection entirely.

So perhaps what ends up happening is Sky builds the technology, facilitates it and they split the revenue. Also build it into their Sky packages, similar to how you can now pay a lesser amount for access to a few streaming platforms.

The biggest hurdle seems the 3pm blackout but there seems enough customer appetite now for that not to be much of an obstacle imo.

Isn't the blackout imposed by the Premier league ? If so its theirs to drop if they want.

Probably aye, I can never remember what the craic is with that but always assumed it would involve consultation with the Football League and maybe even the government. Maybe not though.

Always thought it was imposed by Football league and Premier league had to follow that.

It's a stupid rule these days anyway, think was so that smaller teams etc don't lose fans if big matches on TV at 3pm but a lot of people have alternative streams and watch matches anyway so why not take advantage of that at a reasonable price. If say 10-15 a month a lot would pay it to watch their team. I always said let people subscribe to 1 team and then maybe a different package for other televised games at 5.30 etc.

At least they then have additional revenue stream and a lot would stop the alternative streaming for games.

It’s the FA and FL which ultimately impose it, but it’s based on a UEFA statute (though the blackout originated in England - Burnley’s old chairman Bob Lord pushed for it in the ‘60s):

More YouTube but I did have it on the TV

Talkshite video featuring Brazil and McCoist

Bit chat about NUFC and Antony Gordon.

Putting that to one side but, fuck me, Alan Brazil is probably the most unhealthy bloke I've seen in a long time. Needs intervention in his lifestyle choices, for sure.

Ally looked red faced as well. Must've been trying to go tie to toe with him the previous night 😂

Remember kids, don't do drink.

Brilliant isn't it.

Can't believe how much fantastic footage there is in there. Only half way through but such an excellent documentary - great explanation of cultural and societal shifts through football.

Posted (edited)

The west end show was supposed to be pretty good (never seen it) but it does seem a bit of a misstep turning it into TV. You're always going to get Ted Lasso style cringe with any football scenes and a BBC budget.

Dear England has been good so far.

Pretty creepy how close the Southgate and some of the others are to real life

Watched the last ever football focus today. I actually felt quite emotional because it has spanned almost my whole life. 52 years it was on and I was brought up watching it with my mam and dad who passed on some years ago.

Brought back some good memories with loads of old clips and faces. All of which seems like 5 minutes ago.

Garth Crooks presented Alex Scott with a framed photo of her with Bob Wilson, along with a message from Bob. They were the 1st and last presenters of the show.

Alex was in tears and struggled to get her words out to finish the show and Dan Walker was emotional in one clip when he said he believed he may have been able to save Gary Speed with a few words.

Haven't been interested in much of the stuff in recent episodes but I enjoyed this nostalgic finale.
