I'm very relieved and pretty optimistic that things won't be so horrendous.

 

But I'll need a lot of persuading to be quite as optimistic as Ben Arfa about getting our shit together and fighting at the top of the table again next season.

What's crazy is that Wigan's survival is still completely in their own hands despite being 4 points (effectively 5 cos of goal difference) adrift of safety.

the term "in their own hands" is poop

 

It's not really, it just gets a bit daft when everybody and nobody has the situation in their own hands. In more simple situations it's a good way of saying that it might not matter what a team does, it could still be impossible to achieve their goal even if they win every game.

I think it particularly makes a huge difference psychologically to the players/teams involved.
