Brighton's AMEX included? There's a vote bought.

Fulham's new development? Vote bought.

West Ham getting their rent back? Vote bought.

Sheffield United in the last 10 years have developed, as have Leicester.

Fuck me. That'll get it passed.

If the Americans want total control, then they should just form their own league with brand new franchises and leave our football the fuck alone.

I don't think they realise relegation and promotion is what makes English football the product that it is. It's actually one of the most exciting aspects of the game. Even when you have lost interest in your own team once they are safe, who doesn't like to keep an eye on the relegation fight or promotion for that matter? It's what keeps the season going right to the end.

Perhaps they knew this would get negotiated so thought they may as well start with an extreme, ridiculous proposal and wear people down to a compromise.

Problem is, the most despicable part of the project happens to be the only reason they're doing it. So I doubt the 'power grab' bits would go away.

What happens if one of these clubs are relegated.

They'll get voted back in.

What I’m getting at is will they still be apart of the “big6”. Or does someone else come in and take their place?

I'm pretty certain they'll ensure they never have to cross that bridge.

There isn't officially a "Big 6".

There's just going to be 9 longest-consecutively serving clubs who get to decide how things are run, and they only need 6 of those 9 votes to pass anything. So if 4 of the big 6 agree but 2 don't, they need the agreement of 2 of the other 3. But effectively provided that big 6 agree with each other and just keep looking after each others' interests, they've got all the rules and voting sewn up between them.

It's utterly rancid.

True, if the proposals are true and the type of money they are offering newly promoted teams then the "big 9" should be more than safe each season. Especially with the loan rules they want to bring in as well.

I wouldn't be surprised that if this did get given the go ahead that eventually it would lead to a PL 1 & PL 2 with a much larger European competition.

If we aren't part of the Big 9, then Ashley's case against the PL becomes even stronger. Good luck in selling the club to someone else if we are effectively locked out of any future success.

The timing of this is suspicious btw. The news about £15 PPVs has been buried.

Probably because the clubs with smaller gates wanted to vote against it, and Man U, Liverpool etc kicked off and launched this. If this goes through they can then get their £15 PPV deal back without even needing agreement.

Anything based on deciding which clubs are part of any kind of permanent 'big 6', or however many, can't possibly be allowed in a sport. Those places should be constantly open to change.

But it's not permanent, it's based on consecutive years in the league. So we just need Man U or Liverpool to be relegated in order for this status quo to change.

Of course in the million to one chance that did happen, doubtless the remainder would just vote to immediately reinstate them when they came back up again anyway, citing "historical value and contributions to the league" or some shit.

Or they'd just vote against their relegation in the first place. Whole thing is just utterly rank on every level.

That's what I mean, they shouldn't have any kind of preferential power based on league achievement, either current or past.

The problem is the PL is a members club rather than an organisation that manages the clubs. It should be independent of the clubs really, but obvs will never happen.

Like anyone would be interested in buying a team outwith the nine in it. Why would you buy a club when you have no say in what happens in the league you play in. For example, if we got bought and went and won the league 10 years on the trot, we'd still have no say unless Southampton or West Ham got relegated. Even if they did, Palace and Burnley are next in line. Not that the aim would be for these rules to be in place for that long. They'll fuck off as soon as they can or rig it to favour themselves even more.

I get the 'major league' clubs having to play 'minor league' clubs point in Tony Evans article if you Americanise it as ridiculous as it is. But if you do, the reason there are 6 with revenue far higher than the rest isn't because they're all bigger and more historic. Most of it is down to luck on who bought your club and when. Certainly outside Liverpool, Man Utd and Arsenal. Ourselves, Leeds, Villa and to a lesser extent a club like Forest could have sustained our/themselves at the same level as the likes of Chelsea, City and Spurs all things being equal.
