Thumbheed
Unfortunately I still can’t see this going anywhere. I don’t think Ashley will sue. Seriously? Did you read the club's statement . . . "This conclusion has been reached despite the club providing the Premier League with overwhelming evidence and legal opinions that PIF is independent and autonomous of the Saudi Arabian government." "The club and its owners do not accept that Premier League chief executive Richard Masters and the Premier League have acted appropriately in relation to this matter and will be considering all relevant options available to them." Yes. I have read it. It will all depend on whether their lawyers think the case is winnable. The problem is that PIF is clearly not autonomous and independent of the Saudi Arabian government. I know it’s complete hypocrisy when compared to Man City etc. but hey this is Newcastle United, what do we expect? But do you not think he'd have taken that advice before making such a incredibly strong statement? "overwhelming evidence" saying the top guy at the Premier League has "acted inappropriately". It's pretty strong for someone who's not yet decided his position. By the way we're is your evidence that PIF are clearly not autonomous? The PIF board: Ibrahim Abdulaziz Al-Assaf - Minister of State and member of the Saudi Council of Ministers Majid Abdullah Al Qasabi - Minister of Commerce Mohammad Abdul Malek Al Shaikh - Minister of State and member of the Saudi Council of Ministers Ahmed Aqeel Al-Khateeb - Minister of Tourism Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Falih - Minister of Investment Mohammed Abdullah Al-Jadaan - Minister of Finance and of course: Chairman of PIF Mohammad bin Salman - The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia... I can imagine you’d have to be a pretty bloody good lawyer to convince anyone that they are independent of the Saudi state... However maybe it is possible, or maybe they hope they can force the PL into submission through expensive litigation? I’m just not feeling positive about it. Where's the evidence PIF aren't autonomous get real this. Now we don't know what the assurances that were handed to the league about MBS and co not being involved, maybe they are completely credible and premier league not listening was unreasonable, however, PIF is the saudi state and claiming otherwise is willful blindness. This is the thing, just because 1 side says the evidence is overwhelming and correct doesn't mean it's correct. Interested to see which court is willing to call the Saudi Kingdom liars. I think it's the legal structure that separates it from the politics of the government. Apparently plenty of legal people including Qatari lawyers consider it a separate legal entity. I'm no expert but from what's been said in the past (specially from a independent sports lawyer who wrote articles about it) it doesn't seem like a forgone conclusion that it's considered to be run by the government itself. OpenC
Bein Jacobs. Find it hard to believe that Ashley and a member club would put out a statement asserting the bid was formally rejected if it just simply wasn't the case

gdm
Didn’t masters say/hint at in a letter to someone (khashoggi‘s widow maybe) that PIF were a separate entity. Pretty damning evidence that minds were changed if that’s the case

Teasy
Seems pretty obvious like. PIF announced their withdrawal, but it's the club who informs the league of a takeover and the club who officially withdraws. The club didnt withdraw and kept at it. The Premier League mentioned PIF withdrawing in statements as a easy answer to public questions as they continued to argue with the club on the quiet. Now they've finally had to make a decision. Jacobs is either being deliberately obtuse or he's thick.

gdm
Best thing about this announcement for me is the fact that the pricks who were buzzing off constantly telling everyone that the deal was dead and buried were wrong. My view was that they probably were talking in the background but they wouldn’t find a way to get it passed as the PL wouldn’t budge on their stance and that’s proven to be the case, It’s now been officially rejected. I don’t get the crowing of the ‘it’s still on’ crowd. Bar a lengthy court case or appeal process at this moment the deal has been rejected.
