Besides, he is the Chairman, and he has a whole executive team to manage NUFC. As it stands, PIF ownership is already causing all kinds of panic amongst the clubs. Attending the meeting, even symbolically, will only attract more criticisms that the Saudis are not the hand-owners that they claim Personally, I think the 'fear factor' of him walking into that room would be GREAT, and far overrides any of those concerns. Others may not agree, I'm used to that!

BlueStar
Mackem just sent me this, been discussed? Three years on from the Saudi takeover of Newcastle United, the promised investment in the city has failed to materialise. How was this allowed to happen? https://newsocialist.org.uk/we-need-them/

I think they'll only invest when they see an opportunity and their isn't any, Newcastle is fucking tiny economically as well.

Stifler
I mean, they literally bought the business in Teesside for the same price as the club. Everything takes time, and no doubt SJP and to a lesser extent, the training ground will be dominoes that need to fall first. Everyone suspects that the training ground won’t happen until the ministry has moved into Newcastle city centre, and SJP obviously has it’s own course to run before that starts. The conclusion he attempts to bring you too is that Saudi never planned to invest and only bought the club to 'sportswash'. I'd prefer to think there has been no investment YET, whilst the EPL actively preventing one of their own members, ( namely NUFC ); once those restraints are lifted, or restructured into a more fair and balanced set of rules that don't favour the cartel much, then the funds will start to flow. Am I right, I don't know that any more than Andrew Page does. We are both drawing our own conclusions.
Stal
No investment as the EPL will make a rule that it needs to be included in our FFP.

There’s been precious little so far - and it doesn’t take three years to invest in an area.

Said this many times now, but what motive is there to invest in the area for the Saudis if they are not allowed to invest in a winning team which they can be associated with? I always said that for them to do that it would have to be a vanity project, and if you aren't allowed to be winners, then you can understand why it then just becomes an investment. In which case why would you spend a boatload of money on city projects you don't get a return from?

The two things are linked, and I think that BOTH will happen, very strongly. WHEN, is the question though!

WHEN, is the question though! Yes. This is why we need the PL to be brought to their knees by the Man City court cases. Hopefully the ATP rules being smashed will go some way to persuading our owners that they CAN build a winning NUFC and that will give them the green light to invest in the city with confidence as well. There will be a time, a place, and an issue, that will see our owners become more identifiably involved in the final 'sorting out' of the Premier League and their corrupt cartel. It may still be quite some time off, or it may not be, but at a time of their choosing they will sort them out for good. I am certain of it.
