Luis Campos was another linked in 2020, he's on a free now having left Lille half-way through their title-winning season. Then, he didn't want the job https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2020/luis-campos-has-rejected-an-offer-from-newcastle-wants-internal-changes-at-lille/

"A few days ago, as proof of Campos’ desire to stay, he rejected a huge and concrete offer from Newcastle United to become their Sporting Director, presumably in the upcoming Saudi regime. He politely declined, but added that he might be able to help make recruitment recommendations via his company Scoutly, so long as Lille President Lopez allowed for it."

Keep in mind it's the Chronicle who said he'd be open to it, I trust them but it's just an "intriguing option" according to them who has been discussed. Nothing concrete just yet but the next week hopefully we'll get things in place

Luis Campos was supposed to have had an "astronomical offer" from us while still at Lille, right? Think it was in L'Equipe about 18 months ago, when it looked like the takeover was imminent. (Naturally could be bollocks.)

Seeing him mentioned again today and he does have immense pedigree in the market, would seemingly be a good shout for where we're at and where we're hoping to get to.

But it appears that even though Campos’ future at Lille is in doubt, he has rejected a move to St. James’ Park. The report states that although Campos could make suggestions through his scouting company, he has no intention of leaving Lille.

Was definitely reported in the Chronicle. Agree that he'd be ideal as would anyone with a decent working knowledge of Ligue 1 given the financial problems clubs there are facing due to the collapse of their TV deal last season.
