Consortium of one
The club had already decided it was not going to be making long-term, high impact purchases during this window. It was looking to shore up key areas of weakness and to help bolster the squad for the relegation scrap. Howe and Nickson are more than capable of that. They've decided that the DoF would be more critical for the summer window and beyond so it is not as big a priority for them atm.
The Bonk
2 hours ago, JonBez comesock said: If we had of got someone in early “Wow , This is amazing , we have a real football set up , Preparing for January, love it” If we don’t get anyone in before January “It’s probably for the best , as Eddie Howe Knows what we need ,these things take time , Best waiting until after January when the dust has settled , these jobs take time” if we still haven’t got anyone in before the summer “Well, Who needs a director of football , they just cause friction , we have enough footballing people to make decisions” If that reality happens (it won't), then we should be asking major questions why our corporate governance hasn't been installed and given a considerable operating budget and capital towards on field improvement. And it to be pretty far along Whilst I agree, we honestly don't know how much work is being put into it behind the scenes. They could have had a first choice that they wasted weeks trying to get over the line because something fell through, they could've lost a second choice and so on and therefore made an outside source take the job to find a CEO. We just don't know. I also think people underestimate how threadbare the club was employment wise when they took over, they had to keep Lee Charnley on for weeks - which says everything. Rich
Spent a long time at Reading in a Sporting Director/Director of Football type role, then was at WBA as Technical Director, and most recently Celtic in an even broader capacity. Was one of the pioneers of the DoF position in the English game, so is vastly experienced. Some recent quotes from John Kennedy (scout/coach) of Celtic on him: “We wish Nick all the best,” Kennedy said. “He’s decided himself to step away from his position and look for new challenges. “From my time working with Nick, he’s a really nice guy, good guy, terrific guy, who spent a lot of time building things up, in terms of the recruitment side. He put processes in place and brought in people in positions that the club needed filling. And then the process over the last year has got underway now. “Again, things take time. When you have had a tough season a lot of things get questioned. Recruitment falls in that. There are still some players here who haven’t hit the heights we expect of them, but again we hope in time that comes. “As always, judgements are made very quickly, from all quarters. You just have to live with that and trust our processes. With Nick deciding to step away the club will be looking at what they do, whether there is a change of structure, or whether it is a change of personnel there. But also behind Nick there is a recruitment team there: you have a head of recruitment and a team of scouts and analysts and everything else. “The work still goes on behind the scenes. Nick has had a big impact in putting a lot of groundwork into the process and certain things, and where we are looking and how we find players. Hopefully that comes to fruition in time, in terms of the process producing more and more of the players we are looking for. “Again, you have seen seasons in the past when the recruitment has been deemed good, you always have some that didn’t work out, for one reason or another, and there are a number of challenges. “This year, more than ever there have been more challenges for any player coming in to the situation we find ourselves in - both football, and life in general.”
Raconteur
Ex-Reading DoF on a short-term contract. Kid Icarus
If he's the best that was available for a temporary role then fair enough, but I'm not going to pretend his CV isn't very underwhelming.

LV
Does seem a bit damned by faint praise there. ‘We hope the players he bought eventually come good’ essentially Still, like others have said above if it’s the best they could get for the Jan window and it’s short term cover then he’s better than nothing and clearly knows how to handle a transfer. I hope these aren't the red flags that they read as and it's down to what Celtic were looking for, because we're definitely not in a position for new players to be doing anything other than hitting the ground running. Dr.Spaceman
No signing guarantees you immediate success. Every single team signs duds, it's going to happen with us and when it does it's not the consortium's fault. We as fans really need to get our heads around the fact that we're probably getting relegated, accept it and let the directors crack on with their plans. Whinging like a child is going to do fuck all other than play up to the stereotype and provide plenty ammo for journos / opposing fans. Don't give them the satisfaction. We'll spend a year or two down there and come back much stronger.

Raconteur
I don't know that we can read too much into his departure from Celtic - much as I love Aussie Ange, he's a bit of a control freak with a tiny splash of "This town only needs one sheriff"... EDIT: Also, we can't credit him with signing Furuhashi, given Postecoglou had been watching him in the J-League Edited December 17, 2021 by Raconteur

And he’s not one for the long term apparently so all is good. We are still only under 3 months in from when we were bought by the consortium so things are going to take time to get us up to a World class outfit after 14 years of being part of the marketing department of Sports Direct.
