Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has revealed he has held "positive talks" with the club's hierarchy after his candid interview in Germany last week.

 

The Magpies boss insisted he was firmly focused on the task in hand at St James' Park and suggested that any concerns over "boundaries" have been resolved in the last week or so. Howe had spoken about getting things in order so that he and his coaching staff could work hand in hand with new sporting director Paul Mitchell and performance director James Bunce.

 

When asked whether it was about him having the final say on transfers, after beating Hull 2-0, Howe told Chronicle Live: "It is not about having a final say it is about collaboration.

 

"We have had positive talks and we are trying to bring the right players to the football club. But it is never about one person's decision.

 

"And neither should it be. It is about a group of people coming together and making the right decisions all for the benefit of the football club."

 

With the England job still vacant, Newcastle have been hit with a tidal wave of speculation suggesting that Howe could still leave Newcastle. But he insisted that he will still have an influence on the important matters behind the scenes.

 

The head coach said: "I don't think that disruption is the right word. I am at the end point of recruitment work.

 

"Of course I am busy coaching the team and towards the end of collating information where I will have my input. There is a lot going on throughout the year in terms of trying to bring players in."

 

Howe was asked if anything was close in terms of a transfer breakthrough he played down that anything might be done before the trip to Japan.

 

Howe said: "I have just been working every hour to make sure we are ready for next season. We are having discussions every day, several times a day to try to move the squad forward and make sure we are ready for what is a very tough Premier League season.

 

"But I can't give you false news, we are working towards that and everyone wants the same end point, let''s see what happens."

 

Notably, Howe was asked if he'd had any contact from the FA on the England job, with the head coach simply replying: "No."
