No doubt that Trippier was one of best buys imo. But yeah, should have sold him in January. Said so at the time aswell so not being captain hindsight.

Me too, but many were too busy telling me how many assists he had in 2023. Those 2023 assists really came in handy this year!

I don't know if it's because everyone is out of form, but I'm trying to write down the lineup I would go with and it's pretty hard to decide on one where someone isn't out of position or someone isn't really a good option for the position.

Aye, highlights how poorly we have built the squad imo.

I don’t have much issue with his stance on Osula, he is a young project player and relative to the league he was “cheap”

When he is speaking about a ready made Premier League forward he is speaking about players who typically cost a fortune

We don’t have the funds to have 3 or 4 forwards who cost a fortune and are going to need to develop and polish talent like Osula which will take time.

Howe has shown himself to be someone who wants to coach and develop players, deserve a bit of trust on that when it comes to Osula.

Best I can do is:

GK - Pope

LB - Hall

LCB - Burn/Bot

RCB - Schar (Guehi)

RB - Tino (Trip)

ACM - Bruno (Joe W)

LDM - Tonali (Joel)

RDM - Miley (Long)

LW - Barnes (Joe/Joe)

CF - Isak

RW - Gordon

Dunno.

Delap wouldn’t have been a world away from the Osulu fee by PL standards.  But I guess he needed guaranteed minutes.

The idea of proven, fit PL player for a backup is tosh though.  It’s a young player, old player, or shit player.

I always thought Wood was as good as you can get a proven PL backup that might be happy to sit on the bench for a club like ours.

Yep, the reaction is way over the top. We all know fans would throw a player in at any point because they aren’t professional, but managers (Howe especially) will not do that.

Delap wouldn't have moved from City's bench to ours but I agree with the sentiment... Liverpool have as strong a pool of forwards of anyone including City but they are all slightly different which makes the rotation easier. Plus it helps that Salah scores more than some clubs!

Obviously PSR restricts our every move but similar to when Kane was at Spurs it's difficult to sign another top forward when your first choice is real quality

I would say Anthony Gordon is not a Premier League ready Center Forward and yet he plays there all too frequently. I still cant get my head around Osula not being given any minutes playing in his actual position, and he has PL experience.

Not that I strongly disagree, but my guess is Howe is concerned about doing a Tomasson on Osula before his career really gets going here. Osula's PL experience is of not scoring goals in the PL so far.

Given that - arguably - we haven't been stretched for forwards this season, given we have fewer games and Isak, Gordon and Barnes to rotate, I find him being very conservative with Osula more tolerable.

But I definitely wouldn't mind him taking more of a chance on him... A burst of youthful enthusiasm could really do us some good right now.

I wouldn't might seeing Osula doing a bit of Isak's running. He seems very into the high press, not sure if we could play 2 up top, Isak roaming and Osula running down the CB's.

He’s a big strong lad and could help pull defenders out of position and create spaces.

Agreed.  But we have to actually use him.

I said the same thing.  Liverpool have the most quality in depth attack in Europe.  City have 1 striker.  They had a good understudy who moved for more football.

I would like us to use Osula more. I also don’t hate Gordon up top when he’s in form.

this is one of the Eddie quirks I’m used too.

As much as managers love utility players, who can do 4-5 positions, you could argue they're canny shit for the game. We have a canny few in our squad. Stops youth coming through, you end up with a portion of the squad who don't excel at anything.
