Just out of curiosity, what would warrant a change in your viewpoint?

Unless it looks like the players stop playing for him I would give him the season.

Let the leadership sort themselves out. If they don’t want Howe fine.

Feel like we constantly concede sloppy goals. It's a real handicap.

Talk of replacing Howe though is annoying me. That weird trait in people always wanting something new and uncertain and forgetting all the good Howe has also done.

Howe has his flaws but the good outweighs the bad quote considerably.

The summer was a shambles really and we haven't enabled him to progress. The squad is stale and badly needed and injection of something fresh, what we got was deflation and selling two young players to cover PSR.

If we finished bottom half and out of all the cups he then may have some more pressure on him.

I don't think our owners felt that and I don't think they will settle for anything less than European qualification through the league or winning a cup this season.

Then they are dickheads. We have the 7th/8th biggest spend on squad cost and wages.  That’s where we should finish.

No one (well, one person who is widely regarded as a wind up merchant) is saying Howe hasn’t done a great job. It seems the only defence to people’s concerns is talking about how he done a great job in getting us to the Champions League.

At what point do people look at the here and now? The last 18 months rather than his first?

A lot of people don’t and won’t. It’s the contrast between the mentality of our lot and Man U. 2 trophies, 2 qualifications for CL and EL for ETG. Bad start, out. We don’t think like that. It’s a just happy to be here mentality hanging over from the Ashley days.

The 18 months were we have been hammered with injuries?

Things aren't great results wise, but everyone here knows they could be worse.

Far worse.

Of course they could also be better.

How good do you think our squad is?

Do you think its a top 4 squad? Top 6?

I think we are Top 8. Of course I hope for more but that's the level I think we are right now.

He was his own worst enemy giving us Champions League so soon, and bringing us all memories forever with the PSG game.

Now everyone is expecting him, with his hands tied to keep providing that.

Yes and no. I do think he is a victim of his own success to some degree. Too much too soon. Then Last season also had an unprecedented amount of bad luck and injuries.

But we now look nothing like a team ready to push for a European place. So many of the same weaknesses are on show every week and most of this season we have looked poor.

I’ve been saying every week that I think things will improve, I think he’ll turn it around, he deserves a bit of time. But not sure how long you can keep saying that for and unexpectedly. That second half today was when my mind was made up that he won’t turn things around. As it was the same old shit we’ve seen all year.

The squad isn’t perfect, certain players are past it or not good enough. But this team is better than what we have shown for all but about 4-5 league games this season. Performances and results wise.

I didn’t see the game today but I feel like he should’ve just started the exact same team as the last match. Bollocks to tiredness and all that shit. They were in good spirits and had just rattled the best team in the league. Taking out Gordon and Tonali seemed an error.

That said, people have said we played well in the first half so I dunno.

Sure but when we start winning they will love Howe again.

Fickle.

Again most fans are. It's part of football.

I love Eddie, but when the team keeps underperforming and not getting results, you have to consider a change. It's nothing personal. I'm still not convinced he should be sacked though. It's nothing like the Pardew/Bruce days when I literally would take anyone, Eddie will be a hard act to follow.

Outside of Botman we have had no major injuries this season, yet we are still as consistently wank away as we were last season but there's also been some rubbish served up at SJP.

We could be even worse than we are now is not an argument for me, like.

We have a squad that imo can compete in that 4th-8th range. We look nowhere near that and haven't done for ages.

The squad is much better than what it is showing. Yes the 4th place was over-achieving. But the performances on the whole this year are miles away from where we need to be. Results are not much better.

Agreed. But changing the manager doesn't guarantee the players will start performing suddenly.

Look at Man U...

Unfortunately we aren't even performing at that level, though, and we haven't been since the start of this season. You can't drop points against an endless list of poor teams and expect to finish top 8, especially with how competitive the league is this year.

The away form in particular goes back even further than this season, to the start of last season. I remember making posts about being concerned by some of our away performances and results a year ago, even before the injury crisis kicked in.

I feel like on paper we had a relatively easy start to the season and no major injury woes apart from the usual candidates (or those who were already out long term), so there aren't really any excuses for it.

The massive contrast in our performances against bigger clubs compared to the clubs that we should be beating is the biggest cause for concern IMO, as it speaks to a lack of motivation and concentration in those games.

we were really good against Liverpool and in the first half of today. Looked an absolute top team in those 3 halves. Gave me a lot of encouragement that Howe is setting the team up to win tactically.

Sounds like the players collapsed after the third went in today. The individual errors were absolutely embarrassing. Livramento and Schar for the 4th just revolting defending.

You forgotten Callum Wilson?

Or do you just considered him a permanent absentee? 😄

I don't think we're CL material based solely on others strengthening more.

I think we are a 6th-8th team st present.

Look at Man U

A new manager not impacting results immediately isn't an argument for someone being wrong to want the original manager replaced. We were awful under McClaren and Carver but it didn't meant that we were wrong to want Pardew out. Lopetegui being shit doesn't mean West Ham fans were wrong to want Moyes out. Us with Bruce. Etc.

Completely agree. It even took Eddie a while to start getting results, but we all knew the decision to replace Bruce was correct.

We've been shit since we got knocked out of the Champions League.

Unfortunately the longer we leave it the further our stock falls and with that goes our ability to attract an elite manager.

If PIF are really thinking about it, they need to rip the band aid off asap.

We'll look good against most of the top sides. That's our game.

Nottingham, Brighton, West Ham, Everton, whatever the fuck. We've struggled against these sides and there's absolutely nowt to suggest anything will change on that front.

I’d say it’s a valid argument if there isn’t a notably better manager available. We’re not talking about replacing Pardew, Carver or Bruce here.

I doubt many would've heard of Arne Slot before Liverpool appointed him, and I find it short sighted a view that absolutely no one can do a better job than Howe is doing at the minute. There are good managers out there.
