there's not much quality left out there in terms of forwards.

There's tons to be fair.

It is what fits into our budget and a player Howe won't put on the bench for a year that narrows it down lol.

So, fair, point taken.

I don't agree, there's absolutely loads of them who'd improve us. We're looking to improve on Callum Wilson as second choice, who in his final dozen appearances looked like he was running with a pair of doc martins on.

There are plenty of great talents out there if scouted properly. Every Isak, Salah,Haaland etc didn't start out at the top.

As many have said many times, we are trying to dine at the elite table but we aren't there yet, clearly, because we have too many restrictions holding us back. Wage limits, PSR rules etc.

We need to find a compromise and target the less proven/established. Buying players before their break out seasons not after, like we used to. I don't see the need to scrap doing what got us to where we are.

We have an Elite coach who is proven to get the best out of players and improve them. We have star like Isak, Tonali, Bruno. You drop a few players with strong potential into that group and you watch how they can rise above their previous levels. Just look at what it's done for Jacob Murphy for goodness sake.

Bloody frustrating that we're a champions league outfit yet we appear unable to get players through the door

I think partly due to the uncertainty in the backroom on the Dof. Our dof left and they are now finding for one.

Im pretty similar to you. Half the names pop up like Guessard today, I didn't know anything about.

I trust whomever we bring in will work under Howe. Frustrating we have to go down the list so far, as that likely comes with more risk/work to do to. There are options though.

This may seem a reactionary thing to say and in a couple of weeks may looks stupid BUT, if we end the transfer window in the position we are currently in right now, I hope Howe decides to walk away. I cant see anything else genuinely shocking the club into action/change other than that.

I’d rather he stuck around no matter what, but I get the frustration. In a world where almost all roads to improvement are blocked, Howe is our bridge.

I’d hold Howe partially accountable rather than blameless - he’s chased two DoFs and is one of the three member transfer committee; the others being his nephew and his chief scout.  I don’t see how he’d have zero accountability - they’re his targets

The club has obviously given the management some room to spend money given our bids on different players, dont really see why the owners are at fault.

Agree. He's a fantastic manager but he seems to be doing every other job in the hierarchy as well. It's partly by design, the likes of Andy Howe are here because he trusts them, so he has to have some accountability. Eales tried to do things according to his own principles, and rightly or wrongly got shot down. As they say, with great power comes responsibility, this is something Howe has gladly accepted for most of his time here.

If this is true then you'd expect he will adapt very quickly.

Not on current evidence, we've had best part of two summer transfer windows following the same pattern of going for top drawer only and being rebuffed.

It's the right thing to do and admirable to be so staunch towards improving the ceiling of the squad, the downside is (seemingly) the stubbornness to do nothing if we can't get those top targets when the "floor" of the squad improving would still be a good step forwards ahead of a campaign featuring lots of extra games.

Tbf, Howe himself is probably considered an elite manager. Just like Isak he could probably land a job at one of the super clubs if he decided he wanted to move to the next level.

He must get a bit frustrated seeing cartel clubs taking all his transfer targets. Imagine what he could do with their squads.
