If we get Wissa before start of season has it really been that bad minus the rejections/Isak saga ? And also look at Liverpool for example today , they’ve spent nearly £300m but still look 3 players short .. Not many clubs are running around with massive squads these days bar Chelsea

Adding one or two more players still leaves us with a tiny squad before the inevitable injuries. We’ll be losing a fair few players next summer too so it’s important not to neglect the squad in favour of hyper focusing on 2 or 3 first team players.

If Isak stays and reintegrates then we've retained all of our best players and made significant upgrades on those who've left, CM pending. It's a job very well done in that scenario. Not transformational (whatever that looks like) but frankly that's just impossible to us.

The Isak thing has dictated the vibes of the last three weeks, and I still don't think anyone is really losing their marbles over the rejections, if it weren't for the added pressure of that situation.

If Howe gets a tune out of Isak and strengthens CF cover and CM cover on tip of Thiaw this week, wr may not hot the ground running but we can be optimistic of at least performing on all fronts across the season, without, (perhaps) really challenging for any silverware.

A successful season this year for me would be gaining CL football again. Would actually take early cup departures to ensure that happens - I think continued participation in that is the only way to bridge the gap, ultimately.

Get the squad to a level it's continuously in and around there then focus on the FA Cup etc.

ESPN ranked the top 30 managers in Europe, and Howe came 15th, ahead of Diego Simone, but behind Iraola and Glasner. ???

https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/_/id/45796723/ranking-top-30-best-mens-club-managers-europe

Quote

15. Eddie Howe (47, Newcastle United)

Coaching acumen: 14/20
Style: 13/20
People management: 15/20
Communication: 13/20
History/achievements: 3/10
X factor: 5/10
TOTAL: 63/100

After the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF)'s takeover in 2021, Newcastle became the richest club in the world and handed Howe the chance to lead one of the most ambitious projects in English football. As a result, he remains only a brief dip in form from renewed speculation about his future, but he has a lot of resilience. After gaining experience in two stints with Bournemouth and one year with Burnley, the 47-year-old has established himself as a respected operator at the elite level, composed in adversity and grounded in success.

Tactically, he favors a balanced approach, typically alternating between a 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1. Though many of his peers tend to represent more dogmatic approaches, Howe's flexibility stands out. Newcastle can be erratic; capable of brilliance one week, borderline indifference the next. But the results speak for themselves. He strung together a nine-match winning run around the turn of the year, before a similar surge in March and April secured Champions League qualification on the final day. He also some leeway after ending Newcastle's 70-year domestic trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup.

Key stat: Newcastle recorded the highest number of "smart passes" (a creative pass designed to break the opposition's defensive line) in the Premier League with 110 (Man City were second with 103).

absolute joke of a list and rating structure. be nice if they got his 2nd favorite formation correct that he uses here, you know the one that has been the ultimate arsenal killer.

I'd grudgingly give Glasner his credit. Won his club's first silverware ever in its history (and now the Shield), and that was after their best player got sold to Bayern. Eddie's score for coaching acumen and achievements are scandalous, though.

Still can't fathom how we haven't got a striker in to start the season like. 😂

A freebie on a short term contract would've done or a short term loan.

Eddie reiterates regularly that every decision and every signing has to be the RIGHT player for the LONG TERM benefit of the club.

He, rightly (IMO), would rather wait for the right player than sign someone he doesn’t really really want, even if that means some short term pain for the first game or two.

It's just a loan for three months or whatever. A stopgap until we get them in.

Suggested this the other week, as you say would solve temp problem and boost squad, but some were against it.

He's so polished in interviews. There couldn't be a more perfect "fit" for the ethos of the club that he represents. I hope he gets a bumper bonus and retires with us. He must be so so disappointed with Isak, yet still describing him in glowing terms here.

He’ll want the positive out of this. It will help him grow in his managerial role. He’ll handle this perfectly. Some man. How could you let him down. Imagine a repentant Isak determined to pay Eddie/the team/us back!
