No the issue is that we will never challenge at the top of the league if we continue having that inconsistency year after year.

Its almost as if we dont have a team capable of winning the league.

I have no idea what point you think you’re making.

If we dont play like league winners, we wont win the league.  Come on Dr V, keep up. Until Eddie Howe wins the league, he deserves criticism, even then he hasnt won the CL.

With Wilson and Hodgkinson now in place and finally some stability I’d love us to double down on Jan and this summer for raising the ceiling with big transfers intended to make us title challengers. We have the depth issue semi resolved we just need a sprinkling of world class talent to take us to the next level.

Id love to see a world class GK good with their feet
A raw finisher like Osimhen (although unlikely with wages) but someone up top who can compete with the Haalands and Isaks.

A world class DM that is athletic and quick. A Baleba type.

That’s all I think we need.

you could argue if we got rid of one of the four wingers, getting a world class replacement who is also technical and can get goals would be a good idea.

I wouldn’t say that’s 100% true, we do have Bruno and Sandro in the team. How many of our rivals wouldn’t take either?

Again...we got them both because cartel clubs didn't want them.

I’m in no way insinuating that we should have been challenging for the league this season, am just saying when we have a squad that’s capable of that, we cannot afford to just keep having these blips, but it’s not like we have a shit squad now, we don’t.

With some adjustments I think the players we have should be well able to control games more than we do. That’s down to the manager and the sooner we can do that, when we do start adding that extra quality in key positions, they’ll hit the ground running more so than a whole team having to adapt to a new way of playing.

I don’t know why this opinion is so divisive tbh

Raya > Pope

Timber > Livra (love Livra, but Timber is top notch)

Saliba > Thiaw

Gabriel > Botman

Calafiori > Hall

Rice = Tonali (very subjective)

Ødegaard > Bruno (better consistency?)

Eze > Joelinton

Saka >>> Murphy

Gyokeres < Woltemade

Trossard > Gordon

Kepa > Ramsdale

Zubimendi > Ramsey

White > Trippier

Lewis Skelly > Burn

Mosquera < Schär (but honestly don't know much about Mosquera)

Merino > Miley

Martinelli > Barnes

Madueke > Elanga (probably? bit early)

Havertz < Wissa

Jesus < Osula (Jesus is allways injured)

Would be absolutely insane if we could challenge them for the title. Not even remotely realistic.

I think Arsenal wanted Bruno, but he picked us to be a regular? Not sure, though.

Arsenal were keeping tabs on him but never made the move. That's how I remember it.

Livramento and Bruno are better than Timber/Odegaard, I deffo wouldn't swap them and I reckon Arsenal would

I think only Newcastle fans would think this to be honest. It's more about how good Timber and Ødegaard are than a dig at Tino/Bruno. Tino is still young, but I'm not accounting for potensial.

On Livra and Timber. Livra is amazing defensively. However Timber is great both ways. Livra is only "ok" going forward.

Last 2 seasons plus this one:

Livra 69 games, 1 goals 2 assists

Timber 40 games 3 goals 4 assists

Yes, he plays for a better team, but Trippier proved that very high numbers can be done with us if you are top notch.

Yeah that's fairs

Arsenal really do have a stacked squad, they've spent £1 billion or so very well under Arteta. All big, young, strong, fit, versatile players who can play pretty much any style

In the last 3 seasons we've shown that we are a 60-70 point team pretty consistently. I'd like our next step to be a team that's gets 70+ points, it guarantees UCL and we'd maybe be in the title 'race' for a month or 2 I imagine until the 80-90 point teams steam ahead.

Though this is only our second season managing the CL, so easier said than done etc

Anyone expecting us to challenge for the league with the disparity in budgets between us and six other teams is off their absolute nut. Hope and dream for what you like, expect and use it as a beating stick when we don't - big nar.

Odegaard is relentlessly injured. I’d not take him over Bruno personally.

That's also a good point. Bruno is very reliable in terms of minutes, so I should probably change that one. They have better depth in midfield anyways.

We were two games away from finishing above them last year.

Not saying we can compete for the league like.
