Hmm to an extent, its a poor season based on the teams that would finish above us if we were 8th.

However, and I know its not the exact same situation, but there's no way when Chelsea and City were taken over a manager would have survived finishing 8th, based on their ambition. Depends if Saudis have the same ambition.

Do you ever genuinely reflect on what you are doing with your life when you post on here pretending to be a Newcastle fan? In this world of culture and experience, and this the only opportunity to will ever get to sample it?

Love him but he really does need to try something different when we're in losing positions in the last 20. Another side happy to cede possession against us.

Willock is doing nothing, might as well get Osula on with Woltemade for that last stretch.

He'll be gutted to lose to that vampiric freak today. I really hope we try Wolt and Wissa starting just to see if we can bring something different to the table over these coming games. A lot will depend on availability of Bruno, tbf.

 this has cheered me up a fair bit

Beating a minnow in europe, GG.

Villa are the side we should be trying to compete with.

This is just total ignorance.  Look at some of their results this season for a start.

All the contrivance about his future is almost irrelevant at this very point. However we're entering a really rough stretch of difficult away games. By the end of it we'll know where the chips have fallen. Here's hoping we can change our fortunes.

They're going to fall on the floor

Injuries racking up further. Now Joelinton down.

His football is just not suited to being in this many competitions.

That’s a great point. If pif wants us to continue to be top 4/5 every season there’s probably evidence now that the style of Howe won’t allow it.

I would never change my view game to game - I honestly think 6 months is sufficient to then make a.call on what I see

I think this season in the league is going to prove too much for us to put a proper run of wins together and I can't see us finishing above 7th/8th at best.

If the club stick with him in the summer and he goes in with the same style, transfer strategy and philosophy next year then even his biggest defenders on here need to open their eyes a bit.

I love Eddie, he is the best coach I have seen since supporting this club back in 2007 but it is clear that this season was a huge missed opportunity if we managed last summer better.

The style isn't the problem, its insisting on taking over transfers and buying a pile of shit thats the problem.

He might be forced to try something different soon - midfielders are dropping like flies.

Might be a good thing. We are very predictable.

Unfortunately he's brought in a whole load of players who are totally unsuited to the system he wants to play.

Wissa been poor, but looks totally isolated anyway. Woltemade looks like he might be a decent enough number 10, but he won't play with one. Elanga appears to be happy playing in a counter attacking team where he'll have space ahead of him to utilise his pace, but we don't play like that. That's £180m on players who don't look suitable to how he wants us to play.

Compare the budgets. They are minnows compared to PL clubs.

I still think Eddie is the right man for the job, but it's getting more and more apparent that he is struggling to find a way to get the team to work cohesively. Our squad is looking thin and aging now, and our plan of attack has basically one route, which is clearly telegraphed and ultimately not working. The way we are set up and approaching games needs to change, because while we have over performed the last few years compared to what we have spent. Losing all european football again for a season would be a massive step backwards, and may cause us to lose players which will make it even harder for us.

We'll have no Europe next year so plenty of time for him to sort us out

And then back in Europe so we struggle and as a result don't get back in Europe that season.

Endless cycle. Better than relegated, promoted, relegated, promoted though.

Nothing to do with people coming in here every week - the frustration most have here is that we’ve been consistent all season - and it’s not the consistent we want - by in large it’s been a repetition all season - if it isn’t working, why keep on trying it
