I think we’ve got to suck it up for the foreseeable. Maybe there’s hope we can beat Villa and Qarabag although right now it wouldn’t be a disaster if we don’t. It is clear these players are done and need a break and until they do I won’t judge Eddie. If he starts next season badly then I might change my mind.

I can't stand Edwards but there's a kernel of truth in part of what he's said there. Some of our fans have ragebaited themselves when it comes to Howe imo and I've watched it happen and been exasperated by it in real time.

We'll never ever be successful if every single setback is widely perceived as a failing of the manager. Thankfully it still seems that that view is only held by a noisy minority.

His comment is fair in isolation. It's just the fucking nerve of the man to be coming out with that 48 hours after fanning the flames. Fucking dickhead.

If they were determined to make a change then surely there's no reason at all to sack him now, unless the person they had in mind was available right now.

Absolutely Yorks, the only reason to do anything before the end of the season would be because they had someone who wants to come in now who is a step up. And the odds of that seem close to nil to me.

Don't get me wrong, we will have no shortage of candidates should Eddie go but I don't see that being a thing at this very second.

Ultimately who even makes the call on a new manager? Ross or Dave? Neither fill me with confidence.

We love hiring third parties for big stuff, I wonder if that continues. By right it should be Ross but it will require Saudi sign off either way.

If there transfer dealings are anything to go by it will take them two seasons to decide.

I don't think I've been in a position where the team is clearly not performing and my overriding feeling towards the manager is "I want him to fix it" rather than wanting a change.

I was a bit younger when SBR was here but as I recall I thought he probably should have been 'moved upstairs' at the end of the season and a younger coach brought in for the longer term.

Oh aye he's a little tosspot, he just sometimes lands on the truth when he's doing his whole contrarian thing.

Despite the form and everything else, Eddie Howe is still the man to take us for IMHO.

My major concern yesterday was Eddies comments post match, he looks exhausted. I do wonder whether the hospital stay and potential England job this summer may see him step down. He's been let down from above for a while now and deserves the structure and support this summer to reinvest in the squad.

Naturally, I think a lot of this squad is coming to the end of their time here. I'd go as far as trying to negotiate any big sales early so EH can reinvest that.

I've just read through the last 10 or so pages. Some of our fans are absolute weapons, resorting to Mourinho gifs when discussing Howe's performance this season is very strange.

Being the first to gloat that I SAID THIS MONTHS AGO YOU SEE I CLEARLY KNOW MORE

Proper weird behavior when we're all essentially fans of the club and are wanting the best for both club and manager

Admittedly I am strange, but just wanted to clarify that my Mourinho gif was taking the piss out of a suggestion that Mourinho could come in and do a job here.

And then I compared Mourinho to Cliff Richard.

Yeah that’s it for me. I’m sure he’ll be acting the innocent party soon too.

Couldn't agree more. What's happening is gut wrenching. Absolutely nothing to take pleasure in.

And Mourinho FFS

It's a coping mechanism.

I've already apologised for being a cunt. I'm just sad and frustrated that the same problems tactically get rolled out each game. The midfield is absolutely pointless, attacking play clueless and the high line/man to man pressure with current squad - suicidal.

It's been ringing in my ear for months, @Ronaldo Described us as "flat track bullies" a couple of years ago to everyone's derision (myself included) but it's hard to disagree with that assessment looking back.

We look so hopeless when we have to play actual football.

We’ve beaten everyone in this league though

Has he been let down by those above or his own failings to mix up those around him - he's had more control than most managers in terms of the top to bottom structure of the club. He also spent 250m on not very much alongside his nephew. He's not been keen on listening to a DOF nor bringing in new ideas from those coaches he had in L2 of English football. Even Pep refreshes his coaches, especially when they have been found out. He's also too loyal to players and it's all catching up on us. It's stale and that's partly on him.

I hope he turns it round, but he's had a fair support.

This a great post and a pretty accurate summary.

He’s had total control for some time and certainly has more control than other managers across the league.

It pains me to admit it but any criticism is more than just, certainly at the minute.

Let down? He won the power battle with Paul Mitchell, who wanted to rip up the recruitment model because he didn’t think it was fit for purpose. Howe then got backed to the tune of about £250m, and a huge chunk of that looks like dreadful business.

Eddie Howe is a club legend, no debate. But the idea that he’s some kind of victim here doesn’t stack up. We’d be laughing if fans of other clubs were making the same excuse.

This is a good post. I actually think he can change, think new, turn this around. He’s at least earned the chance to try.

If he left the celebration from other clubs fans would be infinitely more than our own. People know he’s a talent.

The back room team have been a continuous, unmitigated disaster since Staveley left. Recruitment has been woeful. The owners should be all over this but there is a perception of disengagement.

We can’t attract big players, we know we’ll be out bid by the big 6, there is no plan B barring knee-jerk signings so the focus should be on potential.

Throw money at the kids. We’ve been perpetually shit at U18-21 development. Probably since the Keegan era.  Feeding Northern Alliance teams should be seen as a failure.

The circumstances that lead to him having control, and his nephew spending £250m in the summer continue to not even get mentioned, let alone disregarded. Despite it being crucial to whether you believe he's been supported properly or not.

I've said it before but the way people speak you'd think he'd demanded the circumstances he's been expected to pick up the baton on, it's crazy.
