Back to Eddie. Love this man and back him to the hilt really, with minor reservations about in-game management and substitutions that i've felt a bit frustrated by since early in his tenure. I do think he needs a good month off in the summer to fully recharge and maybe decide if he really needs all the aggravation. I worry about his physical and mental health, he carries the weight of everything on those shoulders. You know the bloke cares deeply, as much as anyone has and I think he deserves all our support, whether you're on the fence about him or not.

If the answer to that question about returning is yes, come back and really have a good go next season but also give some thought as to how we can truly manage so many competitions. That's a complicated conundrum. I couldn't even pretend to know how to build a squad that can manage 3-4 competitions with excellence at all times. I'd like to see anyone else do it, within the constraints we work these days (PSR etc).

Give the bloke the help he needs man. Between the CEO being MIA, the DoF leaving and the rat business, it was a fucking shit show of a summer. Wouldn't it be nice to have a summer where none of that is present and we can get our business done and the time on the training ground to have the squad where he wants it?

It feels to me, this season, like we've decided that unlike in 23/24, we can't play that way with intensity and avoid injuries. Trouble is, we've become a lukewarm version of what made us so good, and still haven't avoided injuries anyway. That's got to be massively frustrating for all concerned because in essence, I think the logic was sound but the implementation has clearly been flawed.

A huge summer beckons, we need a review at all levels, including the coaching staff and a very hard look at the players and who needs to be moved on for their own good.

Ner I still believe what I was saying about Keegan. I adore the bloke too and he is truly iconic for us. He's probably done more for the club than Howe overall. But Howe winning Newcastle a cup will mean he surpasses Keegan as (potentially) our greatest ever manager for many, certainly outside of the NUFC fanbase.

I’m in camp Heron.

It’s possible to adore Keegan and everything he’s done for this club whilst also accepting that he was a fundamentally flawed manager and that’s why we didn't win anything, despite being one of the strongest teams of the era.

It's just really sad how this is going down. He certainly doesn't deserve this.

This summer is going to be brutal.

100% agree that he doesn’t deserve this. He’s earned our patience, trust and support. It would be mental to turn on him now. The minute he loses the home crowd (derby?), he’ll walk imho.

I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen.

I love the bloke.

The Keegan not winning anything is far too simplistic an arguement imho.

Dalglish and Gullit came as close to winning something as Keegan but they're more antethesis than equal and they're better than Sir Bobby by that measure.

Our greatest ever goalscorer won nothing for us either.

I’m Eddie in camp, however I do kind of understand some people wanting a change.

What I struggle to get my head around is people wanting him sacked mid season! What good will that do? It would just end up with Jones in charge until the end of the season.

Also, the amount of people at the match who don’t join in clapping or singing but will happily tell Wissa he’s shit for the slightest miss touch, why do you keep going to the game? You clearly don’t enjoy it!!

The derby result shouldn’t matter more than any other, but it undoubtedly will to many of our supporters.

To put it another way, “he failed to beat the Mackems” is so far down the lost of sackable offenses for a club that fancies itself a CL contender.

It will and rightfully too. It’s not just 3 points. It’s about regional pride.

I don't remember anyone agitating for a change when Keegan was in charge.

Wish nothing but harm and unhappiness on Edwards.

Good article and he's right.

Fans turning on him at the first sign of a bump in the road can get to fuck for me.

It might be the cherry on top for a lot of folks, but in no world should it be a precipitating event.

This isn’t the first bump in the road though, it’s a gradual and horrendous decline. At the start of the season we blamed Halls injury for lack up build up play, now he’s back it’s clearly not the issue. Let’s blame Trippier, but even with Livra we still put out shit performances

There’ll be many who don’t share that opinion.

Well, yeah I’m sure of that.

If the grand ambition of this club and its supporters is that we’re the best team in the NE, then sure.

Managers will get critics wherever they go. If anything Newcastle fans are more forgiving and loyal than most. Howe won't get hounded out, I think Baldwards has still got a chip on his shoulder against fans who gave him shit after his support of the Ashley regime during the takeover process.

To be fair, social media was absolutely rife with "Howe Out" last night. Even the poll up there ^ shifted by 20 odd votes in one evening, and this forum is relatively sensible and positive compared to your average fan (believe it or not).

I wouldn't be shocked to see our fans turn on him, people in general are rank these days when it comes to wanting short term gratification and our fanbase is no different. Long term thinking and critical reasoning is a thing of the past.
