OverThere
I'm not sure if our owners could run a bath. I think Howe has kept the thing from being a complete disaster this season, even if the team selection today was bizarre. A reserve player in MF would be better than Wolte there. The Eales and DOF situation was amateurish at best. Edited March 8 by OverThere

In my opinion. But did he...Tuesday will tell imo. I don't think people have ignored anything honestly, every post on here is about the hardship he's suffered. The amount of money pissed away in the summer blamed on a guy who left before the summer window even opened and who was against this transfer policy The bottom like is, he was given a lot of money to spend, spent it and we've gone backwards. Obviously people can and do point to fatigue and injuries but this is part and parcel of the game and precisely why you have to be extremely circumspect when spending large sums of money I don't want to bash Eddie he's a club legend however in my opinion a lot of hand waving of criticism of him exists, but if we are being honest the alarm bells have been ringing for sometime. Those alarm bells could continue to ring but for now they ring in the court of his leadership and not that of his won as far I am concerned. He is not beyond criticism, nor is any man, but on an official level we claimed Isak was not for sale early-to-mid window and we sold him almost at the last gasp. We were outbid on at least two successful targets in Ekitike and Joao Pedro and then numerous sub-requisite strikers as tried anything we could to navigate the transfer market. It wasn't for the want of trying. The season, theoretically should be enough to find a solution but in reality, is it? We've played the most, top level games in this country since the start of this season. What chance have we had to regroup? Eddie is not the problem. Yeah, we didn't get out targets perfectly normal when your targeting is way off. We can't compete with Cartel clubs for established players we knew this and a Carabao cup win wasn't going to change this either. Ultimately when you have a pile of cash and you spend it and go backwards it's highly problematic when you throw in the nature of many performances we've witnessed this season this very much puts the spotlight on the manager. Anyways we have to see this season out and review at the end of the season. Go out to Barca and finish bottom half then Eddie's future is up for debate imo (not saying instantly sack him, but I would want to know what's going to change next season and I'd also want to know what my other options are if I'm getting more of this season). Jagten
He’s done really well given how bad the last two summer windows were, but I don’t know how much blame to give him for both - particularly the last one (probably a lot). I’m not quite sure where we go from here, nor do I have any confidence that the technical leadership is capable of the consistent above-average decision making to offset our financial disadvantages. Regardless, I don’t think you gain anything from changing him, unless you have a coherent sporting strategy and a talented leadership group with whom he refuses to comply (first is not true, second might be). We weren’t outbid for any of Pedro, Ekitike and Sesko. The player just preferred the alternative. The most annoying one is Ekitike because he’s an Isak regen and he would have come given the consistency we’ve shown in interest in him. Any one of them and it’s looking like a different season entirely because all are more suitable than Wolt Wissa Gordon Osula up front

Nah next season we would definitely finish top 6 and back to Europe, no matter what happened this coming summer. No Europe games = enough training sessions for Eddie. Dead sure about this. It’s what the 2027/28 season that is worrying. Would Eddie fail it the third time?
Keegans Export
9 hours ago, Yorkie said: Of course it was, but we've been out of that since early Feb. Please let's not debate whether or not we should've tried to win the trophy we won last year... ...when we weren't also in Europe Fact is, we cannot compete effectively on four fronts. That isn't Howe's fault, PSR limits us and a poor summer window left our squad too short for that. Which competitions we prioritise and which ones we don't can be debated of course but ultimately we can't get away with picking the same players multiple times per week then blame fatigue when the performances/results are poor. Eg. The argument earlier in the thread about Qarabag. He had his reasons for playing a strong side despite the huge lead from the first leg. Fair enough, he wanted to build some momentum ahead of some big home games. We've lost two of the three we've played so far. These are the decisions you live and die by as a manager, get them right and get the credit but get it wrong and fingers will naturally be pointed. Coffee_Johnny
7 hours ago, Minhosa said: Aye, we walked out with loads of people slagging him off and saying it’s time for a change. I love the bloke but, I’ll be honest, that away defeat at their place still hurts. I’m not sure how I’ll feel if we don’t turn them over at SJP. Whilst I’d not be calling for his head, it would take a lot of getting over for me. And it’s a big result for local fans. The ones he absolutely can’t afford to lose. You couldn’t have made up a credible worse run of games to have before ‘round 2’ against them at home. I was so looking forward to slapping them daft after the sucker punch at their place. Eddie and more senior leaders seeing the possibly of progressing against Barca to a CL quarter final game as more important is understandable; and through the lens of our profile in world football probably is ‘the biggest game in our history’ thus far. Not least as a QF against Atletico Madrid (13 points below Barcelona in their league) or Spurs is a game we’d have a great chance of winning. However, potentially fielding a patched-up team of heavy-legged and demoralised players who have played 8 games (Man City H, Qarabag H, Everton H, Man Utd H, Man City H, Barcelona H, Chelsea A, Barcelona A) in the month before, whilst our local ‘visitors’ have had 5 games, somewhat deflates my confidence. The prospect of losing that game given what is likely to have gone before, places even more pressure on that match. Don’t get me wrong I’ll be lucky enough to be there and will whole heartedly support the team however the game is going (no doubt screaming/chanting like a berserker in battle) but it increasingly has the unhelpful feel of an absolute must win. Unlike the three remaining fixtures before, the fanbase will not be able to shrug off a defeat.
astraguy
I remember the days not long ago when people were always moaning we never never took cups serious yet how many times have we made the semi's? Eddie is doing an amazing job when you put him against cheque book managers with bigger squads! Why the owners still haven't found a way to get our revenue up is fucking embarrassing

Yes I'm fully aware our apparent lack of depth is an issue, but the lack of faith in our u21s and youth is alarming. We have Miley, and drag out Shahar as last resort time wasting substitute. Do we genuinely not have a reserve/u21who could make a difference? I know our facilities arent the top ranked but surely we could scrape up a competent player from somewhere in the region. Even the 6 with their blindfolded spending on whoever they want drag a decent homegrown player out occasionally

Geogaddi
Think he got the team wrong yesterday, he put a stronger team out against Qarabag at home after winning the first leg 6-1 than he did yesterday. We always had a better chance of beating Man City at home in a one off game than we did of beating Barca over 2 legs so yesterday should have been the priority.
