There are great managers available at the moment. But to be honest good question is are they willing to come to NUFC. I doubt it

We are one of the biggest clubs playing in the best league in the World. We'd have some pull you'd think.

For the Howe out lot, who are the suggested replacements?

I'm not having a good at you mate, but  this comment really pisses me off.

We are not the CEO or DOF at nufc paid £1m pa, so we dont need to answer that question. They set the strategy and succession planning and make those decisions about a new manger. Should Villa, for example, have stuck with Gerrard because their fans on a forum could not suggest a better replacement.

I'll be amazed if they be are only paid £1m nowadays.

Not sure he comes back from this in the eyes of a lot of supporters, unfortunately. It wasn’t pleasant viewing watching him and the players getting booed all the way around the pitch at the end of the game, though a fair few were clapping in defiance still.

I do think he’s more than earned next season, but with the caveat that he has to reinvent the squad and the tactical approach.

When he joined and implemented the pressing style in his first full season we were the best in the league at it, but teams are much more used to playing through it or subverting it altogether now and we’ve never really looked like overcoming that in recent times.

I do think that’s true for a lot of sides in the league, this season especially, as it’s by no means just us who look a pale shadow of our former selves.

The bloom is off the rose, either way. I always knew that the cup final was likely to be our greatest day, and it’s hard to see how we ever better that with the rules as they are without a minor miracle.

This is the bit I have no confidence in. He doesn't like turning around too many players in one window and I don't think he's that interested in playing good football, I fear he'll want to double down with more athletes, brutes and sprinters.

I think there’s a valid argument that replacing Howe, even with a capable manager, wouldn’t change so much. It’s hard to feel reassured by those above him. Our new CEO seems like a typical corporate bullshitter, nothing concrete on the new training ground/stadium, and the only known change after last summers disaster was to bring in a sporting director with a questionable reputation. We don’t seem like a club pushing to be the best anymore.

Nagelsmann - could look to get back into club football

Iraola - contract expires in the Summer

Tuchel - contract expires in the Summer

Glasner - leaving in the Summer

Sebastian Hoeneß - statistically one of the best managers in Europe

Conte - free agent and serial winner

Simone Inzaghi - one of the top managers in Serie A

Wildcard

Xavi - would be interesting to see what he can do with the team

Mourinho - people will disagree with this one but a sentimental part of me wouldn’t be against this

I'm still Eddie in for the record love the bloke for what he's done for our club but if we did get rid there are managers out there who can do a job

Are we big enough for Alonso? Would be a massive statement if we could manage to get him in

Fabregas at Como is a shout, he's took them from Series B to currently in a champions League spot in 4th

Ireola at Bournemouth is a great manager, would do very well here.

Mourninho - Couldn't think of anything worse, would be a terrible appointment which would turn sour within months

I still remember when Arsenal picked Wenger from some Japanese club, changed their club for the better for more than a decade. There will be Wenger of this era out there somewhere, just got to hope we find him first if Eddie was to leave.

I wouldn't put the chances of that as very high.

Neither would I, just fear we’ll end up with a Brendon Rodgers type and we’ll be stuck in mid table for a decade. Rather keep Eddie if there’s is no one better.

Wenger didn't just change Arsenal, he revolutionised English football in a lot of ways.

The chances of us finding someone like that again are close to zero.

Do people keep saying Mourinho simply because of the Mr. Robson connection?

Pretty much.

Very fitting comparison imo. Arsenal fans ended up hounding Wenger Out then entered their banter period.

On who could replace Howe - it kind of depends where we end up this season.

If we go on a run and end up 7th/8th then I'd say that's about par and replacing him is going to be 50/50 at best. But if we stay 11th/12th? Especially if that points gap to 7th widens, and we don't see a substantial improvement with more time to train/coach, then it's probably fair to say the chances of someone coming in and doing better than that increase.

That era is pretty much gone.

Wenger and Ferguson were exceptions from a different time. Modern football just doesn’t work like that anymore. The game moves too fast, squads turn over quickly, and most managerial cycles peak and fade within 3–4 years.

Even elite clubs don’t bet on 10–15 year projects now. They build structures that outlast the manager instead.

Waiting for “the next Wenger” is more wishful thinking than a realistic strategy.

I guess we have two options this May.

1. Stick with Howe. Then allow him to assemble a squaud in his (and Wilson's?) mould. This needs to have severe surgery and get rid of likes of Pope, Burn, Trippier, Willock, Murphy, etc etc. And those players that want to leave, Tino, Tonali, Gordon, etc.

2. Replace Howe with a new manager. Let him use the current players and get a tune out of them with new ideas, ways or training, etc.

Its easier to do option 2 and it's difficult to trade players nobody else wants.

Won't we have the players leaving with option 2 as well?
