It has been to be EL at a minimum or we’re going to lose some players and we’ll need another rebuild like last summer’s utter shitshow that @Yorkie was so supportive of.

Fuck the media's obsessive push to get Eddie sacked from our club. From what I've seen it's only really them trying to shit stir, along with some mackems and a small minority our fans that want him out. I'm sick of hearing it personally, I hope Eddie stays for years to come, there's no way he can be judged on this season's outcome as a follow up to last summer's transfer mess, all the extra games and no investment in January, especially considering how far we got in each cup comp we were in.

Aye.

Not all roads to success are linear.

Some of the ones who are Howe out were calling for his head back in 2023 too.  Before we won a cup and had the best season in recent memory.  Some fickle fans on here.

amen, we can't fuck this up like Keegan or Bobby we really can't . eddies comments do kind of scare me that he might walk away or other clubs have approached him

Dont think EL will matter much for players staying really.

Who could be next Liverpool manager?

Eddie Howe – whose future is less certain than it was at the start of the year – was considered for the job when Jurgen Klopp’s departure was signposted two years ago but bridges have been burned on that score by the elongated and damaging pursuit of Alexander Isak 12 months ago

I did not know that :memeyeah:

Of course he can be judged, I'd go as far as to say he (and every manger) should be judged each year.

The wildly held view is that we (and he) have struggled with the number of games, but that is what we are aiming for season in, season out and we will not be a position to build a squad like City have. That's the gig.

So you judge on that, with factors like the summer taken into account and then conclude that (a) it's not good enough and a change is needed, (b) nobody could have done a better job in the circumstances and he's safe no matter what for his contract, (c) it's not been at the level we expect to get to but it's still early and we expect to be back on the top 5 next season with another season of game volume in 27/28, we believe that there has been enough signs to suggest Howe will learn and grow from this year. He will need to demonstrate next year that this is correct.

It's all judgment

This feels like the biggest myth that gets peddled regularly at this point. On the list of what may or may not cause players to sign for us or leave us I think a single season of European football is quite far down the list. And non-CL European football is even lower. It barely registers.

It all stems from people taking Hopkinson's comments on reviewing the manager's performance at the end of the season the wrong way.

When else would it be reviewed after 22minutes against Palace? Just always assumed managers performances were always reviewed at the end of a season, I'd be more uncomfortable if they weren't. Sir Bobby's were in lieu of his age and KK moved to DoF after 93/94.

I'm having a moment here it explains the last bit, I don't recall KK moving to a DoF role with us ever, especially not after finishing third in 93/94

That's the media I guess and it's the same for every club, in fact likes of Slot and Rosenior in headlines far more.

I don't get people mentioning extra games though as it's the same every season if you get into Europe, Villa managed 66 points whilst in the champions league, I know we had some Transfer windows we couldn't spend but I think 250m spent on the squad should be enough for some form of Europe and hopefully it still will be.

Hopefully a good run to end of season and early transfer targets for Eddie/Wilson will allow a squad more time together.

My bet is he walks away.

I’ll be really gutted, but I think that’s how it goes this summer.

What makes you think that?

He was asked directly yesterday if he's committed to the club and he said hes 100% invested and committed to the club.

Absolutely nothing he said yesterday in his press conference made me think hes going to walk away.

I’d be surprised if he walks away. How many managers actually walk away these days?

I think his comments below are where the problem may arise, the club have said player trading is going to be part of the future business model, I interpret the below as Howe saying if we sold Tonali etc then ambitions need to be realigned.

The club won’t be re aligning any ambitions, if he sells Tonali for 100 million and we bring in 3 players worth 50 million, that is done with a view of moving the club forward.

Last summer is a prime example, we sell Isak and brought in more players, unfortunately it didn’t work, but it will have to work in the future and he needs to accept selling a purple doesn’t mean the club lower ambitions, it’s to move the club forward.

On the prospect of more of their best players may being sold Howe said: "If that's the reality and I'm not saying it is - David will know more than me on that - then that is the reality. I have no issue working with the conditions that the club set and finances dictate."

He added: "I've never had an issue with that all through my career so as long as that's made clear to everybody on the outside and the expectations are aligned within that because I don't think you can have expectations that warp reality, everything has to be aligned for the players to enter the pitch and play in their best place where they're relaxed and not under undue pressure."

Just to clarify, the reason the number of games gets mentioned, certainly when I mention it, is due to the lack of adequate investment in quality in depth of the squad last summer and this spring. You can't be expected to perform to the same level across the board with an aging squad, let alone one that hasn't had extra players added in to cover rotation and the inevitable injuries caused by said extra games.

And yes, going back to Colos comment, being in Europe does indeed bring inherent extra games, quite rightly 'that is the gig', but if the club fails to prepare for that, it's not Eddie's fault, so no, I don't think he can be judged on the club's failings on that front, which would be a considerable this season.
