I took it from this, last paragraph.

Where's the bit about doubling down on recruiting 'athletes' (as if that's suddenly controversial)?

Inference - he says for his system to work he needs good athletes, ergo players being sold or freshening up the squad that this is going to be one of the primary considerations. As opposed to being good on the ball, intelligent in possession, 'having that bit of magic', linking up well with others, being that creative spark. Nope - athletes. I'm laboring the point now but if there was one primary characteristic of players in our squad that I don't think we need more of.. it's that.

Great! More running fast and having stamina as opposed to pure footballing ability :celb1:

They aren't mutually exclusive though. Just need to do a better job of finding the athletes with better footballing ability.

They aren't opposed to each other.

Nope, but if athletes is the primary tickbox with Howe-lead recruitment, we're not getting any more Lewis Halls through the door (Ashworth-era signing).

Was just about to say that. You DO need athletes in today's game, but you also need skill and composure, that's what you pay the big money for. Usually.

Lewis Hall is a hell of an athlete!

He's quick, strong, and has a wicked change of direction.

Think we'll see a better balance of these attributes in the team the more we venture outside of shopping in the Prem as much. They are typically far more expensive and harder to get once they are Prem proven.

"Intensity" still to be "our Identity"?

Sounds great. I desperately want us to play with intensity. Would hate it we become just another Pep-inspired team that want to win the possession % and play it safe at all costs.

But why?

We've all been watching him for long enough now.

We can see that he's a good athlete.

But there's also fans on here say Howe is our best ever manager when Keegan finished 2nd, not saying her is our isn't - it's just fans opinions of "heights" I suppose with plenty living in the now. I reckon all clubs have them.

Winning a trophy will do that

PSG recruited athletes and they are doing okay, a lot of their athletes are also technically very good

So him saying we need to more athletes isn't an issue as long as those athletes are technically very good, the summer will tell if that's the case

Aye. For example, we’ve spent close to 150m on three wide players that aren’t very good technically.

Sorry man, it's just ridiculous levels of conjecture/2+2=5ing. He wasn't talking about recruitment in any way. All he said was that you need good athletes to have an intense style. Which is absolutely true.

Incidentally 'athletes' doesn't just mean Anthony Elanga clones. Every decent player in the league is an athlete.

That guy from Geordie Journos didn't come across great [emoji38] it was probably a good question to ask to be fair to him but when Eddie pushed him to elaborate more by on change of style you could hear him panic and was like "erm like more passing style".

Thought exactly the same. Came across as thick.

On their latest video he says when EH asked him clarify, he really meant to say changing to a 'possession based' team.

Can't see him ever parting with Mad Dog. He said they were like a married couple recently. Ferguson did that quite well - moved on to different coaches when he thought change was needed.
