Woltemade is a perfect example - very technical, capable of playing the kind of football we’re talking about. Doesn’t play.

Osula, who is a chaotic runner is preferred over him.

Osula epitomises the kind of football we do play, Woltemade epitomises the kind of football many of us feel we should, but don’t.

I don’t disagree with this, I just try to separate what we’re doing now from the bigger picture of our progression. Right now we’ve doubled down on the things Howe finds most familiar and thinks will get us a result or two, keeping in mind the horrific season and the rock bottom confidence.

Like I said, he’ll never be a tiki-taka manager but I think we do want to improve in our ability to control games. Whether the balance is possible, we’ll see hopefully.

This summer will definitely be interesting.

Yeah, I think that’s fair. What we saw yesterday was players and a way of playing that has previously served him well, and it makes sense to try and grind out a few results.

It remains to be seen whether we try to evolve into a more technical passing team going forward. I haven’t seen any overt signs, and the quotes from Eddie don’t suggest that’s the plan but all we can do is hope, and see what happens.

We just need to switch our Football Manager scouting settings from pace and stamina to passing, composure and technique. And our playing style from direct to possession. Simple!

Genuine question, who do we consider are technical passing teams that we could emulate? Do we mean a Brighton style but with better players? Man City / Barca with lesser players? Do we stick with the same style for every match and the full 90 odd minutes? Are Man U and Chelsea in this bracket?  Is it just a change of formation where we play through the middle with a 10? I honestly don't know what this means.

Really happy for him with the result. However, I don’t love the route he has gone down in the pressers about going back to players he trusts. Firstly I don’t get it, cause half those players have shit the bed plenty of times in past games. And it must make the wider squad feel awful.

Im perfectly fine with him for next season if he puts some more focus on improving our ball retention and make our play more unpredictable. This combined with more technical ability here and there (especially out wide). As well as sorting out his in game management.

We will never evolve unless we improve in these areas. Said the same before our 1st season in the CL.  Pure intensity alone isn’t sustainable.

Happy for him, hard to definitely say we'd have got someone better.

I am concerned he's already lost a decent chunk of the fan base though, because as soon as the next bad results hit we'll be back to the boos and toxic atmosphere.

Glad it’s sorted before the window opens. No excuses for the window or next season.

Agree. Think some big changes are needed. Not only recruiting wise but also in general when it comes to his management.

And you think this will actually happen?

The style if football will be great  ect season with us having no European football and 9 other teams being in Europe with 3 others being newly promoted. Would very surprised if we fail top 5. My only problem is transfers. Elanga should be the right profile but he's been shit.

I’m pretty confident that Howe will know things have to change. He must have agreed to a change in recruitment and be happy with it, that in itself is a positive.

Good to remove the uncertainty, regardless of the view of each individual on whether he should stay or go.

The club now needs to get the summer right and Eddie needs to demonstrate he can evolve our play and add more control and creativity.

Correct decision IMO.

Aye, considering his achievements here, the lack of leadership last summer and lack of top quality replacement available, it’s probably the right decision.
