There's not many I'd want above Eddie, personality wise. He's a class act.

But he needs to stop with the predictable shite. I hope he will, and believe he's well aware of his own failings.

And if the club have decided to give him next season, and write this one off as a stinker...then fair enough. But if they don't back him and help him...they can all get to fuck.

Commitment works all ways. Not just fans, coaches, and players.

I'm happy with that.

For me last summer would have been a killer for most managers, hopefully with the right people in place to deal with transfers and negotiations we won't see that happen again.

Definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt for me.

Last summer when he was still recovering from a serious illness with no support in key positions…

Tbf to Bruno on this, he's one of the few who can actually threaten the opposition and force them to make positional mistakes so I'm not surprised he makes mistakes sometimes as he's the one making the plays.

The rest are either very tidy without being much of a threat or other flaws offensively, basically a lot of our midfield options while being fine individual players don't actually impact the game offensively to concern the opposition.

He’s the only genuine progressive passer in midfield or attack.

It sounds silly saying it, as it should be obvious, but it's probably a good thing the 'we cannot have a repeat of this season' discussion has happened then everyone knows expectations.

I also think he has to be ruthless this summer and swallow some pride and get rid of some of his summer transfers - Elanga, Woltemade, Wissa, acknowledge it hasn't worked for whatever reason, instead of being stubborn and having more of the same next season.

Yep, I get these guys are hard to get but it's absolutely a problem.

It would make everyone's lives so much easier if they had a couple more who could do it.

Yes?

It was a shit show and I don't think the blame he's getting for this season is warranted.  Obviously has to take some of it for managerial/coaching decisions but the majority of blame lies elsewhere...he certainly shouldn't lose his job for this season... in my opinion of course.

I think this is the wrong decision, but ultimately if this is what’s going to happen, then there’s no choice to back him until it’s untenable.

I was never convinced he’d be in danger of getting the boot mind, even if we had lost every game until the end of the season. That’s simply because I have no faith that the apparent decision-makers at the club would actually be prepared to force a change.

Maybe he got his point across that

A, we need to do our business early

B, bring prudent in the market and buying your 3rd or even lower choice option results in you buy twice and spending more.

Lesson will be in the summer.

Glad he's staying, can't forgive the derby defeats & still have some concerns & Howe and his nephew should never be let anywhere near the transfer market again.

“Can’t forgive”

What a silly attitude to have.

We are going to need 8-9 new signings next summer with him.

GK, RB, CB, DM, CM, LW, RW, STx2

Ramsdale, Schär, Trippier, Tonali, Willock, Gordon, Woltemade, Wissa, Elanga gone.

Nearly impossible, but have to get it 100% right. Otherwise it’s going to be this all over again and then Hall, Bruno, Livramento and Thiaw all could leave (if not already).

Good to hear. Howe gets extra credit in the bank for me because he never really acts like a dick.

If he gets us competing for 5-7th again next season and at least one good cup run, he's delivering the goods.

Part of me is really happy, personality wise I think he's fantastic. I love how he conducts himself, how he behaves, how he speaks. As a representative of my club, he's incredible and I desperately want him to succeed.

But another part of me is incredibly frustrated by him. Is he just fundamentally unable to play anything other than a high pressing kick and run game where fitness and running about are more important than talent?

Are we destined to lose players like Woltemade because he's not fast enough, or Hall because he's less tall than Dan Burn? I think I'll lose my shit if Hall leaves so Burn can amble around at left back for another season.

Yes running around lots and being tall are positive qualities, but we cannot continue to venerate these qualities to the complete detriment of absolutely anything else. On which notes Howe's recent comments about playing style and individuals he trusts worry me greatly.

SBR lost his first SJP derby against them. Then went and won pretty much most of the rest.

Completely agree. My only worry is that he shat the bed again yesterday, not changing it up when they started to get a grip after halftime. It seems the oppo has to score before he'll react.

It's only Minteh's poor finishing that saved us yesterday, and that was the difference between the recent capitulations and three points.

I could see an improvement in initial game plan though and he definitely deserves another year. As you say though, he has to acknowledge and change. I'm still not seeing proactive game management.

You've got to believe that those concerns were raised on Wed/Thur and that the answers he gave were deemed sufficient. Then we win at the weekend, safety all but guaranteed so they're happy to confirm (albeit not directly) that he's staying.

I can't imagine that his response to questions about how to put right what happened this season was "I'm going to keep picking the same players and playing the same way"

It's fair enough doing that now if he feels that's his best chance of getting results this month but, like the shift in personnel and style we saw between 21/22 and 22/23, I hope and assume that we'll see some changes in how we set up next season.

Aye your right. The project has to get sold. Hopefully, by doing that, they can attract similar type of players like Trips and Bruno who weren't/aren't wage orientated.
