What would people's thoughts be in Howe threw Ritchie and Lascelles straight back into the mix?

Be disappointed, but would still be behind the manager and the team. I think it would be totally undeserved on recent form. Actually, performances that goes back quite a while.

I think I said on here that Benitez used to have me scratching my head with team selection. Often left some of my preferred players out. But it often worked, so what do I know.

Waste of 24 minutes. Didn’t blame other people for the results, talked positively about our players and didn’t even threaten a journalist or say their employer should give them a slap.

Yeah, really disappointed that no players were thrown under the bus

Like how calmly he answers every question. Just gives a very professional demeanour, especially compared to our previous head coach.

First time I've watched a full press conference in ages (thanks for the link), got to say, every interview I watch I just feel better and better about him being our manager.

Not only does he play every question with a straight bat, by the end of it he seems to have the journalists eating out of his hand.  Reminds me of Keegan tbh. If you were a player you would run through walls for him. He makes them all sound like world beaters.

I wouldn't put either of them back in but I can see the reasoning behind Lascelles going back in - he's captain, he brings physicality and we'll need that v a team like Burnley.

Ritchie back in ahead of Lewis would be a ridiculously poor decision. I don't think Howe will do that given how well Lewis played the other night, I think Ritchie might be introduced from the bench.

Wouldn't be averse to it being Lascelles and Fernandez as the two CBs. That rick from Fab at the end nearly cost us just as much as Clark.

I would agree with this if he's sticking with two CB's

The main problem with Lascelles, for me. Isn’t his ball watching, his dithering or his panicked style when in possession. It’s that he’s not even physical anymore. Couldn’t even put Saka on the weights and got bullied and given the runaround by Toney.

I’m sure he used to bully strikers when they backed in, he was a beast in the air and was getting stuck into meaty 50/50’s and coming out on top. Apart from his crowd pleasing slide tackles, that don’t really achieve anything. I feel like he’s gone to shit as a defender. Even his leadership seems to have gone. Doesn’t have a presence about him like before and seems almost timid at times.

Hope he gets his mojo backed. Used to love watching him.

True, but Schär not being in the side means only Shelvey has the capability to competently pass the ball forward.

Fede isn't the worst at bringing it out but obvs you're right in that it's one of Schar's best attributes. Just feel like those two lads vs Wood and Barnes, assuming Burnley still play both them two, might serve us better. I know that's us setting up to nullify them rather than playing to our strengths but we're probably not in a position where we can take any game to anyone yet.
